Damage to subfloor from tire blowout.

First I'd like to say how great it is that this site exists; what a wealth of knowledge and experience. I changed out all 5 tires recently with BFG Commercial T/A(s) due to recommendations found here and several other sites / blogs as well; very happy.

Okay, on to the aftermath of a tire blowout. I do have a claim started with Goodyear but in the meantime I need a Band-Aid to keep water from being slung up into a couple holes / large tears in the black weather barrier of the trailer subfloor. I'm referring to the tightly woven black plastic or vinyl material that covers the subfloor insulation of the trailer itself; not the slide rooms.

Has anyone had to do this temporary repair? What about duct tape? I haven't figured out how to insert pictures yet; sorry.

Thank you.

I am sure others will come along with more ideas. I would try Eternabond to seal that black fiber material. I think it would hold better than any tape you might use.
Try this link then shop the net for it. http://www.eternabond.com/

I think a good quality duct tape will make a temporary repair.

I cut our underbelly on the 3750FL to access a valve and repaired with black gorilla tape. A year later it was as if it was just applied the day before. I would think it would serve as a permanent repair based on what I saw.

Ditto on Bingo's suggestion. I too used Gorilla Tape to close holes in the underbelly and five years later it was still holding strong. I just covered a worn spot in the black woven plastic under a slide out (the result of a pepper grinder being caught there). It has only been one month but I believe (hope) it will last for years.

Just picked up a new roll of black gorilla tape at lunch. I just need it to cover the holes until after this coming weekend. I will then be dropping the rig off with my dealer for and estimate and permanent restoration.

Safe travels.

If the tape don't hold, get some roof flashing and screw it to the black bottom. I use it on all the mouse holes in the bottom. Works well.

I hope you have much better luck with BFB Commercial T/As than I had. Last year my NEWEST BFG tire was recalled and replaced with Michelin LTX MS 2. Subsequently one of my JUST over 3 year old BFGs developed a small sidewall delamination (saw a blur in my mirror). That tire held until we got to nearby tire shop where it eventually deflated. Its "mate" catastrophically failed / tread delamination on the VERY next trip only one hour after checking tire pressures before leaving. BFG refused my claim as it was due to low pressure. Must have been my fault since it was the rear tire of the two and behind my dually...NO MORE BFG for me! Come on - 3 Bad tires in ONE year?

I replaced the messed up fiberglass insulation with solid foam Dow Blue insulation board pieces and used black duct tape over the missing and ripped black weather barrier (Scrim Shield?). I subsequently ordered some 4" wide Scrim Shield (10' worth) from Factory RV Surplus along with some other parts I needed. Haven't used it yet as duct tape is holding up.

Gorilla Tape, just clean the area well before applying.

I have the same problem. The weather barrier is pretty messed up over where my blowout happened. Looks like you have to take the wheel off to work on it??
