Always Check the Red Key

Got my rig back from CW last week. They replaced the fresh water tank. Short story is that Keystone replaced the coroplast when they repaired the sidewall cracks earlier last year and accidentally ran a self tapping screw into the edge of the tank.
Anyway, spent the last 2 days replacing wet bolts, bushings and shackles and re-packing bearings. When I was done, I went to put the rig back into storage and noticed the battery wasn't charging.
Spent 2 hours tracking down the problem and ran through the troubleshooting guide from Progressive Dynamics and determined that the charging circuit in the converter was bad. Just to be certain, I called Progressive and went through the process with their tech. Removed the 4 reverse polarity fuses and test output voltage to the battery. Nothing, 0 volts. With fuses in, I read 13.6 volts, but nothing at the battery. Tech said the converter failed. You'll need to replace it.
Spent another hour online trying to find one cheaper than $300.00. I found an article where someone mentioned a "battery isolator" as being their problem. Then it dawned on me. I have one of those. It's a red key in the wet bay and CW had turned it off before when I had it in for another repair.
Sure enough, the red key had been turned off, which isolated the battery.
Turned the key back on and all is well.
I hope this saves someone else time troubleshooting in the future. I never turn the red key on/off since I have installed my own battery disconnect in the battery compartment, so it didn't occur to me to check it.
Long story short, even when the troubleshooting guide and the company tech says your part is bad, make sure that you check everything around it. I almost spent $300.00 for a part I didn't need that wouldn't have fixed the problem.

Yup. It was step 4 that got me. I never turn the key, so I didn't think to check it.
Funny though that Progressive Dynamics troubleshooting guide says to remove the 4 reverse polarity fuses and check the converter's output. If not output voltage, the converter is bad.
If you take out the battery or disconnect it, then it will also appear to be bad when it really isn't.
I was hoping this might help someone else, or especially me in the future, since I seem to be having more senior moments lately.

D’oh!

Glad to hear it turned out to be a cheap fix.

I placed florescent red duct tape over the switch to discourage shops from turning it. I do have a true battery disconnect switch at the batteries.

Similar story. I had my 5er in for service. When I picked it up they said my battery was bad, and needed a new one. My battery is a 2 year old,150 amp golf cart battery I keep on a trickle charger when not in use. I load checked it and it was fine. I have a battery cut of on the battery. I told my service manager about it but apparently never told the tech and he never checked it. They had it on 50 amp service when they were working on it so they had power. When they tried the 12v system with the key on, they had no power and apparently assumed the battery had died. Made me wonder about the competency of their tech.
