What were you doing in 1967?

Well, you were paying 33 cents a gallon for gas, your dad just paid $2,750 for his new car, and the Dow Jones average was 905.
We were up to 475,000 brave young service people in Viet Nam, Twiggy, Disco’s and single bars were making news.
It was also ‘The Summer of love’, when young people smoked pot, ‘Grooved’ and listened to The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.
Me? I was just sitting on the couch and wondering what the Navy was going to do with me next….

On my way to Viet Nam...not a particularly fun destination, but the air fare was free!

Sitting in a barracks in San Antonio, TX, wondering if I would be sent to Viet Nam, Nope, spent time in medical research instead, then the war was over!!!!!!

Doing search and rescue out of Galena, Alaska. Had 35 special missions in a year. Not to mention all the fun fishing in places only a helicopter could land. Ruined my fishing expectations in the lower 48.

Graduated from 6th Grade in June, then entered Junior High School (7th grade) and still in 7th by the end of the year.

It was during this time I started getting interested in computers, and was being called a nerd because of it. But these computers were bigger than a house, but I liked the idea. My how things have changed.

Was a mechanical designer for Dow Chemical in Houston, Texas. Had just finished my time in the Marines in late 1966. I quit smoking that year, a great decision.

18 years old and farming full-time with my father, dating my now wife of 42 years, and was classified 1A. Later got the induction notice, so I joined the Navy, a good choice and life changing experience. Great photo, thanks for sharing. Garry

Same as Art I graduated from sixth grade. My father bought our first family snowmobile. My arm became very strong from carrying the metal 6 gallon gas cans out back to fill the gas guzzler.I loved every moment on that old skidoo. Now I hate the smell of exhaust and I dont like the cold anymore.I hope its not because I am getting old???
