Trailer Brakes

We had a 2011 Montana fifthwheel and had sporadic messages about checking the brakes, trailer unhooked, etc. What it came down to was loose wires in the 4" junction box in the kingpin box. Factory crimped wires with a plastic crimping and one wire came out. I soldered all the wires together and never had another problem!

Had a similar situation. Dealer verified camper side. Took truck in to dealer. They stated there was nothing wrong but they reset a code. Luckily the problem has not come back.

I have a 2016 RAM which is another brand but I was getting the same error message intermittently but finally the trailer brakes completely quit working after trouble shooting the whole brake system and connections it turned out to be the brake controller module on the truck was bad.

Update on my brakes.
Problem found. What happened was my spare tire had worked itself loose unbeknownst to me. It is hanging by a cable. In the course of traveling it would start swinging and catching wiring harness. It would collide with harness and catch it between top of tire and underside of bed. In the process of doing this over time it forced insulation off wiring. Now we have a frayed wire that is being squished between bed and tire. Yeah you can already guess what is happening. Frayed wiring is hitting bare metal on underside of bed and causing short outs. Go figure. All repaired and good now. Another place to look out for!!

Thanks for the heads up, since I installed the TPMS on my spare, I rarely check the tightness of the cable, now on the checklist

First, if you have WD-40, spray the contacts real good on the truck where your plug from your RV plugs in, you could have dirty contacts causing faulty reading on your brake controller. If you have a tester for your trailer and truck, you test them both.
