Gooseneck Adapter to pull your 5th?
Anyone using a gooseneck adapter to pull your 5th? If so, have you had any problems or tips?
Thanks

Not recommended by Keystone. It may void your warranty on the frame.

Bad Idea.
They put too much stress on the front of the frame.

I agree with the above comments. But there are an awful lot of people do it with no obvious problems. Posts about frame failures are not uncommon. But I can't remember anyone saying they were using a gooseneck adapter at the time. Still, I would not do it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Guess we will have to find a Reese hitch.

Even though I have a Reese hitch and like it, In your situation I would shop around. Many here like the B W and if you need a slider many prefer the pullrite.

PennyC - if you put the year and model info of your truck and Monte in your signature it will help everyone when offering help.

I agree with Dick. There are many great choices for a hitch. Look at all of them.

Ive seen a few do it, Keystone says no, as does Lippert. The addition of a gooseneck adapter would add more stress and torque to the pinbox structure.
I have a short bed and love my Pullrite

I would stay away from the gooseneck and the Reese hitch! Might want to look at B & W hitches.

Here is an option. Reese Goosebox. It is a gooseneck hitch that is approved by Lippert (no warrantee issues). Replaces the regular pin box and pulls like a dream. We can debate the pros and cons and which is better, but I remove a 5 lb. pin (in 30 seconds) and I have a wide open truck box. Easy to hook up and I never have to worry about "dropping" my 5er out of the hitch. This link will show you the item. Either system works, your choice.

My impression is that those adapters would only be good for non-residential trailers that don't carry so much pin weight or the typical 15% gross weight over the pin. Residential fivers can carry as much as 25%, or way more stress at that tow point.

We have a 2011 F350 CC Lariat and will purchase either a left over 2015 Jayco or a 2013 3625RE previously owned Montana. Decision is do we want a brand new unit or one that is of better quality.

Open the doors and look at the stuff you usually don't when you shop. We originally thought that we wanted a Jayco due to the fancy stuff they had on their website. While the insides were nice, the infrastructure was the same as our 18,000 TT. I wasn't paying that much for that little. Could be different now, however, that's been a few years.

While the Anderson uses a ball like a gooseneck adapter, it does not utilize a lever arm like a traditional gooseneck adapter. As such it would not introduce the torque, or rotational, forces the gooseneck adapter does. I would not call it a gooseneck at all.
Seems a lot of people are really happy with them, especially the light weight. Being a ball coupler I think it would require chains to be legal. Those could be a nuisance to hook and unhook.

I have an F-350 4WD with 6'8" bed, a B&W companion hitch. I have over 8" clearance between the bed rails and trailer and can turn so close to 90 degrees it's not funny. I am very happy B&W is ALL American made too.
