tires

Are there any Montana (keystone)owners that have anything good to say about the tires that come standard? I understand the standard has changed from Goodyear Marathon to some company called Trailer King. Not sure why when so many users complained about the Marathon at $223.65 each Keystone replaced with Trailer King ST235/80R16 at $105.00 each. You have to wonder with so many threads concerning tire issues that there is no response from someone in authority with Keystone. But back to the original question is there anyone out there that can say one good thing about the tires. We have a new 3610rl, and I will probably purchase (4) Goodyear G614's with less than 200 miles on.

Decided to trade in (5) trailer king tires for the Goodyear G614 rst 235/85R16LT, for the peace of mind. I guess we will never know why Keystone chose trailer king, although they are a large wholesaler of automotive replacement tires and are one of 13 tire companies, independent proprietors, that is managed by a company out of Florida (TBC Corporation)which is owned by Sumitomo Corporation.

Yes, many Montana owners with lighter rigs or who only go to the lake for the weekend have had good luck with them. Heavier rigs that travel back and forth across the country, not so much.

That said, it's 614's on our rig.

The marathons are only good to 65 mph! Above that can cause internal damage to the tire. Don't even think special trailer tires are speed rated like car tires. I had 2 blowouts at less than 8000 miles and I never went over 65...mostly traveled at 60. Of course, I don't know what the delivery driver did from factory to Camping World of Southern Alabama. I was lucky with minimal damage to monty on my blowouts...but the tires were ripped open 3/4 of the way around at the tread/wall interface. John

My simple response is ..............Nope!! Made choice for 614's on last rig and am now comfortable with our tire choice from now on!

Replaced ours after 1 blowout (Goodyear covered the damage). Not a good tire if you use your rig a lot or your rig is heavy.

They performed ok on my sub-10k Cougar TT. I replaced Missions (more bad tires) with them. That's about all I can say that's good. I got a bubble in one sidewall with this rig after pretty minimal use last year, and replaced them this spring. Good riddance.

Our first Montana (used) already had the G614 tires on it. The previous owner, a retired truck driver, mentioned that they were the best tires to run on a heavier 5th wheel. Then we read about all the issues on the forum and were glad we had them so as not to learn the hard way. When we purchased our new rig it didn't leave the dealers lot without the G614 tires installed.

I changed the Trail Kings on my 2015 3582RL before I left the dealership. I put Bridgestones on and am very happy with them. JMHO.

I replaced the Goodyear Marabombs on my 3402RL ...with less than 2,000 miles on them...with the G614's. I had not had a problem with my set ...but just based on the challenges that everyone else had...this maneuver gave me peace of mind...particularly since we are full-timer. MP1

We basically decided to do the same thing and for the same reason ...
peace of mind. We'll be changing them out with less than 500 miles

I would like to take this time to share with everyone what happened to me so you too can be as safe as one can with some added safety checks. I was putting 80 psi in my 5th wheel tires and my valve stems would leak only if I moved them side to side. The tire was fine, within 5 years of age and no dry rot. The Valve stems have No date on them, so the manufacture could buy 10 year in bulk and there you are, so I’m changing mine every three years. All 5 of my valve stems leaked so I took them to a tire shop and they only had to break the valve stem side and put a New one in “TO EASY”. When a good tire blows out, there is a reason why. Happy and Safe Traveling Barry

If you were using metal valve stems, you wouldn't have that issue as well. John

Yep 2015 3610 here and it didn't leave the lot without G614s.

Yep put 4 G614's on yesterday after all the bad thing I read on this site. Last thing I need is a tire blowing up and ripping up rv. Yes there is a chance with the new one but it will must likely be a nail or some other road hazard. A little pricey but...............oh and steal valve stems for tpms system adding soon

At the RV show this weekend I asked the factory rep if they were still using Marathons. He said no, they were using Trailer Kings. That's all he would say.
