I use to own the 3750FL and trust me, you need a diesel, 1 ton, and preferably a dually for stability. It will last a lifetime and has better resale value.

I've never been sorry I bought my truck with a Cummins diesel. I traded in a gasser that screamed going up grades that the diesel doesn't even drop a gear. Capability is best measured when you need it. Good luck with your choice.

Wow, there's so much pro-diesel recommendations here, I'm looking for the OP to go with a gasser just to annoy our recommendations. I do know there are gassers out there, but not sure they could tow a late model Montana. I for one am gonna need a new truck (probably a dually) if I ever find some gold and get a new Montana or Big Sky.

There's no mention of a very important safety feature besides the Gas / Diesel debate is BRAKING.
2500 and 3500 or F250 and F350 have better brakes for STOPPING SAFELY and the diesels have the ENGINE / EXHAUST BRAKING for added stopping power.
IMO buy the diesel for all the extra features that you should have when towing.

Great point. Very seldom do I use the brakes going thru the passes out here since the exhaust brake and the tow haul mode take care of that for me.

After going 1st with a gasser, then with a 2500, I finally got a diesel dually. not only is the diesel a ton more powerful, but with a dually you don't really have to be concerned with pin weight unless you buy an awful big 5th wheel. I thought the dually would be a pain, but I love it and it is extremely stable towing....

Oh a big block gasser will pull a large Montana just fine. We did our first big trip with our 206 3400 with a 2005 V-10 F-350 Long bed, CC, dually.4:30 diff. We did over 7K miles out west and back and did some of the big hills. Spent a lot on Fuel. Did not get up the hills very fast but who is in a hurry. The truck did scream but the big blocks can take it. On straight and fairly level we had no problem keeping at 60/65 MPH or better. The V-10 was a pulling beast.
We did go diesel on our return. The diesel does the all over job much better. If the truck is used mostly as a daily driver and you are a low end RV user I don't think I would spend the extra $$ on the diesel. The diesel is at its best pulling heavy loads.

a 6.4 gas in a 3500 single rear wheel is only rated to pull 15000ib so it wouldnt work anyway.
