The problem is most RV sales persons are neither wholly honest (Hook being an exception) nor semi retired. Since they need the money and know that telling folks they need a new truck will kill the deal they do what it takes to get a sale. That pretty much goes for any other important question you ask them.

You are so right Dick. They figure as long as your truck will pull the trailer off their lot, they're in the clear! And once you sign the dotted line, you're stuck.

Yup, salesmen have diesel exhaust in the brain. They forget that besides the engine and matching trans, there's a lot more to support a tow than that, like brakes, differential, size of tires and wheels, drive train, suspension, springs and so many other factors.
Go figure that if the 3/4, 1 ton, and duallies have the same diesel engine and trans for all major manufacturers, why don't these all have the same numbers? It's because of these other factors!!!
Sometimes, I wish flogging was still legal.

Sorta gives RV salesmen the same label as used car salesmen. If they don't know the answer, they make one up, and they always tell you what you want to hear. (there are exceptions, of course) The combined weight of my F-350 and 3400 is 24K as of last Saturday. That was before I added 60 gallons of fuel.

I always say these words, "so that I sleep better at night, I recommend a 1 ton dually truck , yet , the choice is yours".

Some people just don't understand what it is to be over weight and it's consequences. Just yesterday sitting here in my campsite pulls in a 3/4 ton Ford pulling about a 34' 5th wheel with a car dolly behind that with I believe it was a ford focus. I just shook my head and said I am glad I am not on the road with that guy around. Not a couple hrs later this same individual come knocking on my door and asked me if I had internet. I told him that I did and he said well if you don't mind I will just pay you and you give me your password so I can use your internet. Honestly, he did this!!! I told him I was on a limited amount of time and he walked away almost mad at me. Sometimes you just don't understand people.
