advice on truck tires

Howdy! I have a 2011 4x4 F250 Super Duty Lariat 6.7 Powerstroker with the factory 18's (tires and wheels). Before our long trip up to Colorado this summer, I need to replace the tires. The tire size is LT275/70R18 (E rated).

Any suggestions on a good replacement tire. I don't do a lot of offroading with 95% of the miles being highway (daily commuter plus towing my 5th wheel camper). I want a good tread life and a quiet riding tire.

I use Firestone Transforce tires on the camper and the truck.
We haven't had a problem with them on either one.

My vote is for the Michelin. I do not remember paying THAT price shown in the link. In that size it's quiet and is rated for at least 70,000 miles. Mine are still going strong.

I guess I'll have to look up what I paid (from America's Tire).

I am also a Michelin fan. Seem to get better miles out of them than other brands I have tried. Always replace the OEM tires with Michelin on my trucks and my wife's vehicles when they wear out.
Was glad to see my 2012 F350 came new with Michelin 20".

Have used Firestone Transforce for past ten years on both trucks and Fivers. Never a problem.

Michelin vote here. I still have my original Michelin tires on my '04 Dodge, 88K miles and still good tread. I will probably replace them them this year just because they are ten years old and we are planning a trip to Alaska and I want good new tires for the rougher roads. But getting over 80K miles on a one ton truck is great as far as I am concerned.

Another vote for the fat tire guy. I have run them on my service trucks since 1976. I ran all my off-roading this winter on them, we went on trails, BLM areas, often building up spots with big rocks the trails were so unused in the Sonoran desert. the sharp rocks took their toll on the treads, cutting them, but not one flat.
I have 4 new ones now I am on the road, but stored the used ones for next winters off-roading.

Which Michelin tires are you running: LTX A/T 2 or the LTX M/S 2?

I am on my 3rd set of Michelin LTX M/S on my truck (a little better mileage than the AT) and I just put them on the RV awhile back and they ride a little better than the original Marathons. I have never had a problem with the tires on the truck.

Wow, Ozz, I was trying to figure out who you were calling the "Fat tire guy". But then I finally remember what the fat Michelin man looked like. Oh, THAT fat tire guy. whew! I thought I was gonna have to call the cops on you.

Papabeav, how many miles are you getting on your Michelins? Three sets, WOW. I hope you have a lot of miles on your vehicles to go with all those tires. I replaced my Goodyears (a decent tire) at about 55,000 and the Michelin LTX M/S2s are now at about 40,000 miles and still look pretty good (but they are about half worn compared to the spare that stays under the truck).

A while back, Lonnie, the tire guru, recommended Bridgestone Duravis 250s or 500s. I got the 500s, they are doing fine.

Not the MS tires, I think that is the more aggressive treads.

I was told M/S was more for Mud & Snow and AT was more for all terrain even though each tire can handle some of each other's terrain. Since I would probably encounter more mud or snow when I travel, the I opted for the M/S. I have used my M/S2 in all terrain conditions without any issues (that I could tell). I'm not sure I would have noticed any difference since I don't do very much mud, snow or off-roading.

The three sets of Michelins I have had on my truck only went about 50k each. Need my 4th set shortly. I have priced Michelins, Firestone,Coopers.Have not decided on which one yet.

The Michelin LTX M/S2 is a 70,000 mile tire, not aggressive at all, but is mud and snow rated. The Michelin LTX A/T2 is a 60,000 mile tire, classified as all terrain, but not much more aggressive than the M/S2. Michelin has a factory promotion going on from 14 March through 15 April, $70.00 rebate on set of 4.

- Firestone Transforce A/T
- Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo2
- BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A
- BF Goodrich All -Terrain T/A KO

Now I just have to make a decision.... I need to go read some reviews, etc.

I see most of the tires on your list are A/T all terrain. They are all good tires, but I would add one for you to look at. The General Grabber A/T2 has a tread pattern similar to the BFG All Terrain T/A KO, has a 10,000 mile higher rating, and costs less than the BFG. There is also a rebate, $50.00 back on a set of 4 through 04/10/13, if bought from a Tire Pros dealer.

I have three concerns on selecting tires:

1) highway noise from the tires - I hate loud sounding tires
2) Good towing characteristics
3) tread-life (I understand that towing will reduce treadlife)

Gotta figure out the right balance.
