Driving Time
Greetings, my wife and I got into a discussion about driving times to a destination. We were wondering what others consider a decent day's drive before stopping for the day. We normally will do about 4-5 hours. Normally will have a destination planned out to co-inside with that driving time. On the other hand, we have friends that will drive for sixteen hours or so at a time just to "get there". They are both retired. A couple years ago they drove so long that my friend's wife ended up in the emergency room with severe back spasms.  I know that the time the one puts on the road in any given day is strictly a personal choice, but just wanted to see what the average was.

We will sometimes do 10 hours or so in a day, but not two days in a row. Prefer to keep it under 8 hrs.

My bride and I both work so on vacation we make the best of it without over extending ourselves. On average we like 400 mile days, hit the road around 7am, stop for lunch at a rest area, and roll in to camp around 3 to 3:30pm (we like to drive about 60 mph). On days where we sight see along the way we will often shorten the drive time.

Rarely over 5 hours or 250 miles now. Much easier on the hemorrhoids since retirement

300 miles or 3:00 works great for us in a lot of cases. It just depends where we are headed. I like to get in by 3:00 or before.

4-6 hours is plenty for us and that includes a leisurely lunch and a late start.

We try to go with the 10 to 2 but usually get on the road earlier. But we seldom do more than 300 a day. Used to be able to do 26 hr marathons but those days are LOOOONG gone.

I am retired now. Plus, fuel costs are so high. We only travel 200-250 miles a day, then stay and explore the area for three to five days.
we did have to exceed that once on an emergency trip. Then, we did three 16 hour days in a row.

300 miles is pretty much it for us. We quit rushing when we retired!

Normally leave around 9:00 and stop around 3:00-3:30. 250 - 300 miles a days.

If I am making my way to Pa. to visit my kids we usually do 2 12 hour days. Figure I used to work 12 hr days at times so not much different. Besides I enjoy the driving and music. But if I get tired out I will pull in somewhere.

Under 350 miles a day, except the rare occasion. Many days are less than that, 90 miles, 150 miles, maybe 225.

About 300 miles/day for us unless we are close to our final destination and than stretch it a little. I did pull from Tunica, Ms to northern Illinois once when I was younger and dumber.

250-300 miles a day, averaging 50MPH including stops, so 5-6 hours unless in a hurry. We are both retired, in no hurry and like to see the local sites as we travel.

As the wife and I both work and time away is at a premium, we travel hard to reach our destination and maximize our downtime. NY to Orlando was a day and a half for us, although return trip was two days. When we retire, I'm sure that will change!

We will leave at 10 a.m and try to arrive for a night or two stay by 3p.m. If I plan ahead find RV Parks to stop at,it works better. We left Oregon on Feb 27 heading to Page Az. Only one time, We tried to get from Bakersfield Ca. to Hurricane Utah eight hours later, 7 p.m dark tired and right in the middle of down town Las Vegas saw a KOA camping, pulled in and found that they wanted more for a night stay than I had ever paid or hope to pay again. Moral of the story don't pull without some kind of plan and push so hard that driving becomes unsafe. We had a very bad time of it. The night sleep was good slept like a log. Hope this helps.

We plan on leaving at 9am and leave when we are ready. Start looking for a C/G around 3pm. Very seldom make reservations as it ties you down to a destination and a time table. It may frig up the day.
Also use the rule of a tank of fuel at the most. If you don't have a plan nothing can go wrong.
