G-614 tires
We own a 2008 3485SA Monty. Planning a few long trips this summer and want to head off any tire problems. Have had the Marathons on since 2008 and had no problems but don't want to push my luck. Our Monty is not accessable right at this time so I can't check the rim pressure limit on the rims, but wanted to know if anyone who owns a 2008 Monty with the aluminum wheels 8 bolt run the 614's?

We have a 2008 3000rk and my rims have a sticker on them rated at 110 psi.. I did not put G-614 on.. I went to BF Goodrich TA Commercial. I have had them on for 3 years now.. no problems with them.. Feel a lot safer with them.. The Monty came with Missions.. I did get about 10,000 miles out of them before the treads starting coming apart..

like lfw says, check the backside of the rim for a sticker or a stamped psi rating

Your rims are likely TR6 rims that are rated at 85 pounds as per tredit. They did rerate them at one time to 110 pounds and then recinded it.

If you have a picture of your wheels you can call Tredit tire and then email them the picture and they'll be able to tell you what your wheel is capable off.

Or go to their web site and match the rims shown to the ones you have and the specs can be determined.

MIKE I have a 2007 3485 SA with B.F.Goodrich Comercial TA's on the monty since 06-2010.I Drove from Denver,N.C to West Yellowstone Montana and back. Down to the gulf coast of Florida and back. And other places in between. Never have had any issues with these tires.Did have a blow out with the original Mission tires.I did a lot of research on tires before buying these tires on the recommendation of (Lonnie B) our tire expert on the forum.Hope this info is helpful in your decision on buying tires.I do think the G-614 is overkill for your monty. I have a 2008 3400 and ran G614's on it for 4years without any problems.
I looked behind the rims and there was no sticker or stamp on it.
This year I plan on changing rims since we plan on traveling a few thousand miles, better safe than sorry!
What I do like about the G614's is the fact the ply is 14 opposed to 10 ply which makes a big difference backing in at 90 degree's and those wheels are just standing still and not turning.
Think about the force your putting on those tires. JMHO!

I love all these people who say that G614's are overkill....
what would my G114's be then?
For many years I was a long haul trucker hauling meat out of Denver and whatever I could get on the backhaul.
The tires on my Tractor and trailer were rated at about 6,000 lbs each in dual setup. (more if single)
So - 8 tires on a set of tandems were rated for 48,000lbs The legal limit on tandems was between 32,000lbs and 34,000lbs. So we ran somewhere at about 68% of tire capacity if we were loaded to the absolute max.
Now take my 5'ver. I scaled earlier this year at 12,540 on my trailer axles.
The G614s - 4 of them at 110 psi would accept 15,000 lbs. So I'd be at 84% of the tires load capacity.
My 114's - 4 of them at 125psi max out at 19,220 lbs so I'm at 65% of capacity.
I think one of the reason we hear of so so many 5'vrs with blown tires, and see them on the side of the road with blown tires, is partially due to the attitude that running tires at 84% of capacity - or less is considered overkill.

Yep, X2!! On my second set of BFG after the recall last fall on my 08. Got to run the first 2 seasons of my BFG's with no problems. I suspect I will have equal luck with my new BFG's. Great tire in my opinion!

Greg, I'm with you. We scaled at 13220 on the axles (7K axles w/614s) so that's part of the reason for upgrading to the 114s and the 8K Mor/ryde IS in May. Would much rather have more rather than not enough. And believe it or not, our brand SOB comes std with Marathons with the 614s as an option.

I feel comfortable with the 614's on our rig, but should we buy a new heavier rig we'd go up also, of course we'd be going up in trucks also.

Well believe it or not, they are taking off E rated tires , and replacing with another E rated tire with less rating then they had on. Very common here to take off a tire rated for 3500 lbs, and replace it with a tire rated For 3042 lbs.

Just to clarify. My point was not to denigrate G614's, but rather to dispute the opinion that they are somehow overkill. I think that is the attitude shared by the manufacturers and why this discussion about tires keep popping up. If the manufacturers supplied all trailers with G614's straight from the factory - not as an option - I bet there wouldn't 10% of the posts about tires as there are now because there wouldn't be nowhere near as many failures.
I think they are decent tires for the job with a modest reserve carrying our Montys. Certainly not overkill however. (how much safety margin is overkill anyway?)
If I didn't go with the IS I might have stayed with the 614's. For another trip. We like to do mostly boon docking and going to off road locations as much as we can so part of the reason for my choice in upgrading was having heavier stronger tires for running on rocks and uneven surfaces. I had Maxxis E's on my old 9,000 SOB with total axle weight of 6240 and was running them at about 58% of capacity for that reason.

As I have stated before, this tire problem is in the towable RV community only. Our MH has OEM tires that are equipped to carry the load and more. Read a MH forum, virtually no tire problems, whereas those problems are a daily occurrence on this, and other towable forums. When the towable manufacturers start equipping their RVs with properly rated and quality tires, the problems will stop.

Our 2008 3400 Tredit TR06 aluminum rims are rated at 110 PSI 3750 and tagged on the inside as such. Verified with Tredit and they confirmed they are indeed rated for 110 PSI. I provided the info stamped on the inside of the rim to Tredit and the paper sticker as well. Tredit acknowledged the sticker however used the stamped info to verify the maximum PSI just in case. While some rims may have been rescinded I don't believe all are rescinded at least in my example. Best to check with Tredit.

That's just the problem, as the article I pass around indicates. If people are riding in the vehicle the feds insist on substantial reserve capacity. If it's just trailer tires then they don't have to carry any reserve capacity they can put it all in a ridiculous number on the sidewall. Then the manufactures are free to put a tire "rated" for the rig on and save a bunch of money.
