Dry Camp

Wife and I plan on dry camping for 3 nights/3 days in the Big Sky 3455S. We do have a builtin cummings gen set. Any tips on water or propane, usage?

If starting with full propane tanks, don't see how you could go through two tanks in three days, unless you run the heater 24 hours a day. We have found we can go several days with holding tanks/water, if we are careful. Examples: use paper plates and grill, so minimal dish washing, easy on the shower, take a case of bottled water for drinking. You should be fine.

Our favorite campground has only electric hook-ups. We can normally make six days on the fresh water, 7-8 days on the shower grey water, 11 days on the galley tank, and 11+ on the black tank. We've learned how to take very quick showers with minimal water. x2 on using paper plates and cups and drinking botled water.

Assuming the built-in genset is propane powered and 3000-5000 watts, you very easily could go through two tanks of propane in less than three days if you plan on running it for any extensive amount of time. Our 5.5 Onan uses between 4-5 pounds of propane an hour at half to full load. Using your generator to charge your batteries and to occasionally power up needed devices such as microwave, etc. should stretch the propane for the three day period. We like to carry an extra barbeque propane tank (20#) just for an emergency reserve. Experienced dry-campers can give you some valuable water conservation tips.

Good advise from all who responded and many thanks. Let's see...paper plates, short showers, minimize gen run time, since we are in the back country.....pee behind the tree.
Thanks all
