Will fuel mileage get better with new filters?

Will changeing the fuel filters help with fuel mileage? I'm just getting about 17 empty on the hi-way, about 14 around town, and about 9 pulling the Monty. I am going to change the filters this week-end and hope it gets better. I have about 56,000 miles on the truck.

New fuel filters while very important probably will have no effect on mileage. However changing air filters can improve fuel mileage.

x2 on the air filter, also keep tires inflated to manufacturer max pressure rating

Goodyear tire gave a seminar at the fall rally.I asked that very question."what should the tire pressure be" The answer by the folks who make and test tires was... Inflate them to the truck manufacturers specifications NOT to the max pressure rating indicated on the tire.

I inflate mine to max pressure indicated on the sidewall knowing I'm good for the load rating listed next to it. She does ride rough but that's something I can deal with...

I think the subject got changed on this one! maphillips started out asking if changing the fuel filter will help with the fuel milage!!
I drive a Chevy 2500 Duramax with an Allison 6 speed trany and the dealer told me I would see the milage high point or at least an average when I hit the 25000 mark. I'm at 28000+ now and I'm getting 12-14 city, 21-25 highway and when I'm towing the Monty I get the same as the city rate on the highway! I don't think the fuel filter will do that much on increasing the MPG but as others have stated the air filter and tire inflation will help some but don't count on a drastic jump.

A plugged filter is the best fuel economy.

You're right Brad but you can't get very far with the plug -- unless you're in Colorado and coasting down a mountain!

x3 on the air filters. Your numbers do sound about average for the truck your driving though. I believe you can put a K/N filter system on your rig with no problems. The '08s can't use them but the older 6.0s can. They WILL increase your milage. Bob

Thanks Rondo for getting this thread back on track.

Air filtration is the KEY to better fuel mileage. Not so much the fuel filter unless that fuel filter has out lived it's suggested replacement mileage.

Depends on how dirty the old filters are.

Thanks everyone. I changed all the filters this past week-end. We'll see how it goes.
