Blue Ox Bed Saver
I am trying to find a capture pin style bed saver, I already have the Blue ox bed saver but I would like to get my bed space back. Oz is out here and has a very nice capture pin bolted to the Jaws of the hitch plate. Blue Ox used to have a similar unit but I haven't seen one for a long time. Jim says he got his from an old guy that built the units in his shop. As for Blue Ox no longer making the bed savers that doesn't seem to be a problem at the moment. I have seen literally hundreds of them for sale. PPL, Tweetys, most of the RV parts dealers have many to sell. I will keep looking and will post pics of the unit if or when I find one..

We use the 5th wheel latch kit fton Butch's Services LLC in Marblehead, OH. Website is www.5thwheellatchkit.com but is showing only as "under construction". Phone is (419) 798-1440. Installed our's while at a Forest Service campground in Michigan in Sep 2015. Easy / peasy - he even included the necessary drill bit with the kit.

Dave,
Like many of us, we too have Butch's. But I have asked many times if anyone has really had to use it to see if it's really strong enough not to bend
I've never gotten an an answer

All I get is a voice mail. Doesn't even say whether it's Butch's or not.

I just called and left a message. If I get a response I will get one and before I remove my Blue Ox I will intentionally leave the jaws open and drop it into the new latch bar. I will leave the bed saver in place just in case the latch fails. As I look at the new truck I am finding little hidden dings and other issues. I noticed a small "ripple"just under the bed rail about 2 ft forward of the tailgate. I walked over the opposite side and saw a similar "ripple". What ever 5th wheel unit that dropped on it it wasn't a Montana or there would have been no hiding it. The only reason I first noticed it was because I was showing off my Bed Saver to OZ and I looked directly at the usual crunch spot and there it was. If the latch works I will have a Bed Saver for sale at a very reduced price

Up date on the 5th wheel latch kit. He lost his machinist and hasn't found another that will do the work for the required price. He still has a few for B&W and for the new rounded Reese, but nothing for the Reese 16K. He is still looking so all is not lost yet..

I have contacted a metal fabricator out here in Golden Valley. He will start work on a prototype after the 14th. If we can hit on a viable product I will post on here the details and cost..

Dave is that theft for developing the prototype from the Butch hitch?

nope, locking system will be different. If you look at the original Blue ox pin safety and Butches they are almost identical. This is going to be the same idea but different execution. Don't really care as I get the prototype anyway. My dollar, my toy.. If my buddy wants to make more units that is good, but if Butch ever finds a machinist to start building them again then that will be a good market item. If he doesn't then others will fill the void. As I said before there are hundreds of bed savers out there, you just have to search for them.
