2002 7.3

My son is looking at a 2002 F350 7.3 with 150,000 miles. Anything he should be aware of.

I would check the coolant. Make sure it has enough of the additive in it to prevent ruining the engine. Without the additive the combustion process will eat pinholes in the block. And it should start to show up about now. It can happen in less than a 100,000 miles.

That's the ole International engine. They are are good, long running, dependable, engines with little pollution crap to deal with. Like mentioned, buy the little test strips and check the SCA in the coolant. You can buy either the DCA4 additive or just do a coolant flush and buy antifreeze with the SCA additive already mixed in like Fleetguard. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pro...-coolant-1-gal The 7.3 responds well to a 4" exhaust system and mild tuners. Change oil as recommended, put diesel in the tank, and he'll have a dependable truck for years to come.

Ahh yes the late great 7.3 is GREAT motor and if it had enough power to tow these newer big Monty's I would have one, Have your son get a Mechanic to go over it and if everything is good BUY IT and 150K is nothing to a 7.3 it's still a baby

Had a 2002. 7.3 is a mechanically sound engine, one of the easiest to work on.

Had a 2000 7.3. Very sound dependable engine with plenty of power to pull my 2006 3000RK. One thing about it you never had a conversation with passengers while towing because you couldn't hear each other over the engine. Not saying that is good, not saying that is bad, just saying. Jim

I had a 2001 7.3. My brother and I took it to Wyoming pulling his 27 foot 5er. We were in the west end of Nebraska, snowing hard but none sticking raceing a Toyota pickup. Mile after mile at almost 70 mph we went. Then Walter said "Got him now". I said " Are you nuts". Sure enough a car was coming down the own ramp way in front of us. Ol Walt was wright we had him and got a good laugh. We had a lot of good times together. I miss him.

I recently received an email from a MOC member regarding a truck they had for sale. I misplaced/lost/deleted it. Please resend if you can.
