Shock replacement

About time I replace the shocks on my 2008 Chevy 2500HD. Hauling a Montana 3455SA (+/-) 15000 pds with about 2500 pds on bed. Anyone with suggestions regarding experience with brands, results good or bad. Thought about Monroe's but heard they were "old tech'. Appreciate your thoughts/experience. Thanks

I have used bilsteins exclusively on my gmc 2500 and my current 3500. Great investment, great shock. Watch all the websites. Bought my current set (5150) online and got free with three.

I like both Bilsteins and Rancho products. Don't know about old tech, but Monroe is still a good shock.

My vote is Bilstein. Have used them before.

I had Bilsteins on my truck, now have a good set of Monroe's which seem to work just as well

3rd Silverado HD, 3rd set of Bilsteins. I've never tried anything else. No reason to.

I planned on putting a set of KYB MonoMax on prior to leaving for Florida. The shop had problems getting the rear two and couldn't get re-scheduled in time. Have heard good things about KYB and Bilstein.

We just replaced our original shocks at 100,000 miles with Monroe's. They seem to be doing fine

I replaced all 4 OEM shocks with Bilsteins at 42000. OEMs were NFG for towing.

I stopped at Monroe & inquired about replacing my shocks at 102,000 mi. He said since I have air bags, shocks would be a waste. Does this make sense?

Not to me. Air bags are only installed in the rear and are meant to assist only not replace shocks. With 102,000 on the original shocks, you are PAST due IMHO.

I only have 47,000 miles on my truck, have Firestone bags, and feel like my OEM shocks are either shot or just not doing the job. Even with the bags I am just not getting the "dampening" effect that I feel a heavy duty shock should provide.

I suspect when towing, when I actually have significant air in my bags, that I would still notice a little better ride with new quality heavy duty shocks. When not towing I expect the new shocks to make a huge difference.

Bilsteins here. 4600 series. Bilstein tech. said no need to spend more on the 5100 unless you raises your truck.

Been more than happy with the ride both towing and commuting.

Wow, is the first thing I could of. Run, don't walk, away from whoever told you this. The only way shocks wouldn't make a difference with air bags would be if you ran the air bags over inflated without the trailer hooked up, and in that case, you're going to lose all your teeth.

I've heard worse advice, but not today.

Ran Rancho 9000 adjustable for 10 years with airbags. Only adjusted them a couple times finally set them to 9 on the rear and 6 on the front and never touched them again. Current truck arrived with Ranchos from the factory I believe 5000s.
