Tool Box

Looking to see if anyone has found a good under-tonneau cover toolbox for use on a Dodge shortbed. Maybe there isn't enough room between the hitch and retrax pro cover box. Hope someone found a solution.

Ron- Checkout TSC(Tractor Supply) Seems to me they have one that might work. I store my generators and gas can between my Retrax and the hitch so you should find something!

I bought mine at Lowe's but I have a long bed Chevy so I don't know if it would work for you.

I had to get rid of my BAK Flip folding cover because the More-ryde pin extended front to far and hit when I turned. I replaced it with an Access Vanish roll up cover and use a tool box that fits under the cover. Can't help with a source for this box because I made it myself. I believe tractor supply does carry this style of box.

They fit below the tonneau cover? I'll stop bar our local store this weekend.

With a tonneau cover, there's much to worry about. Make sure that if you can find a low profile tool box that can fit under the cover, that you position the box so that when the cover is back as far as it can that you can still open it.

I recently got a tool box but it sits so high I had to remove my Bakflip. What I have seen others do is keep their cover, then move the tool box away from the cab so that they can still open it. I did not want to lose any more length of my long bed than I had to, so I removed the cover for now. I still have six feet of bed to keep stuff, plus the two feet deep tool box. There are smaller but I wanted as large a tool box as I could get that fit below the bed rails so that any fiver being towed would not get damaged by the box on a tight turn.

Living in So. Cal there are lots of sources for these tool boxes in many brands and sizes. Mail order might be okay for some, but I prefer being able to go see them, touch them and evaluate them. Good luck to you.

Mine too. In fact it's a perfect fit, both in terms of under the cover as well as fitting between the cover's rails.

So far Ron I have not found a roller type retractable cover that will work with a tool box in the front of the bed, and thats an 8' bed. I have looked and can't come up with anything that works with what I have. Hoping your question will give us some answers to the problem.

You may have seen or walked by mine at the Central Plains Rally. Here is where I got mine made at.http://www.alumline.com/ I have two boxes. One is the level of the pickup box and one is a shorter one in back of the 5th wheel. This is a short bed pickup. They will make anything that you want and any height that you want if you know what dimensions you want. They have standard dimension boxes also. Be aware, they are pricey.... JB

Mine is inside the box and bought it at Agro Supply. It would support the use of a bed cover.

I can't find the dimensions on the Retrax Pro. So I guess I'll have to wait to get the truck, hitch mounted and then the tonneau cover. Then I can measure it out to see what will fit.

Some how I missed that you were using the Retrax. Forget what I said about the box from Lowes, as I'm not sure it will work with the kind of cover you are getting. I have a soft roll up and it works great with it, but I have no idea about the Retrax.

I think with a Retrax style you can find a low box to fit under the cover but it will be in front of the cover's canister. Unless you can get it custom built so the tool box extends under the canister to gain back that area, then that's doable too.
