landing gear shear bolt

I sheared off the bolt on the landing gear of my 2010 2955RL.
I remember Carl Carl Longrin (?) saying to be sure and have a handful handy.
Here I am here in Yuma and the dealer has no listing for the dang thing. I have a standard 1/4 bolt in there but don't want to leave it. Any ideas where
I should look?

Just a Cap screw from a hardware store will work. I think the one you have in it probably will be fine.

What Ozz said ... it's nothing special you need to pay $$$ from a dealer for ... just a bolt meant to break before something more expensive gets torn up. You also have one on your living room slide on the balance shaft.

I think the bolt
I have is a #2 hardness (standard hardware bolt). I'm not sure they is soft enough. I sure wouldn't want to tear up the landing gear.

If it is the bolt on the motor side make sure it is the exact length. there is not much clearance between the shaft and the motor.

I believe the bolt (and nut) you are looking for is a 1/4 X 3/4 socket shoulder screw with 10-24 threads. It uses a 10-24 nylon insert locknut . It can be found at True Value hardware. It uses a hex wrench. Make sure it clears the motor on the motor side.
The threads are not 3/4 inch, just the smooth shiny shank of the bolt. The bolt head is black.
Thanks go to another MOC member for the info. I can't remember who.
Hope this helps!

A grade 2 bolt is fine.

What CORattler wrote! The correct length is important on the motor side to avoid interference. Didn't you get one from me before in Q? I had a 100 of them thanks to another member who needed one and could only find a box of 100.

Motor side is 1/4-20 1". Slave side is same but 1 1/2" w/nylon lock nuts, I believe. We keep spares, too, from hdw. store.

Carl.. I did get one from you but here I am in need again. I would gladly buy 10 from you if you have any left. I am talking about the one opposite the motor. I didn't make Q this year as I am prepping for surgery.

Ace Hardware on Foothills has a really great supply of odd nuts, bolts and other fasteners. Failing that, try Fastenal (sp?) on Araby.

Sorry Bud I gave all 100 away at Q and other rallies. But you should be able to find an equivalent at Ace Hardware.

Thanks Carl, and thanks all. I was just concerned about the hardness of the bolt I used. It seems the regular hardware bolt is okay.

If you have a generator enclosure box on the left (passenger) side that shuts off access to the drive-line bolt, you will have to cut a hole in the flange so you can replace that bolt using needlenose pliers. I used my Dremel tool to make that cut, and remember not to make it too large. That is part of the frame for the unit. You will probably drop a couple in the process, so have a few on hand. RV'ing is full of so many surprises, lol. Happy Trails The Dremel tool can be used to cut the bolt at the motor end to length after installed. Otherwise it will wear against the motor body and cut a groove in it.
