Interesting experience

It took me four days. I was a counselor for several years. In Texas we were required to keep our records for a minimum of 7 years. Well, it has been longer than that, so I went to the place where records were stored and retrieved them. I have spent the last 4 days shredding every piece of paper, every note every calendar notation, protecting the privacy and confidentiality of those who were my clients. In effect my life work never existed. The names of people I served are dissolved into an abyss. Like it never happened: no record, no history. Sort of like professional Alzheimer.

The same time frame as our records..(incl tax records).. I have been retired since 2004. I just finished destrying all my records..I did spend time reading thru some of the notebooks and strangely enough I could almost put myself right back into the situations as I did.. some wlere laughable and some were scary,,its all gone now..like you said.. now I have no physical proof that I ever had a career..now if I could just find that marriage licence......lol

A couple of years ago I took about a semi-trailer load of files to the landfill where I deposited them and then waited 4 hours to ensure that they had been completely covered with dirt (allowed in our state).

My emotions? Both relief and a sense of loss...
