Water pump

I’m sure someone has had this problem but I couldn’t find it doing a quick search. So, I was winterizing the rig (2016 3791RD) and after blowing out the lines, I was ready for antifreeze. So we don’t get off on a tangent, I know I can just blow out the lines and call it quits but I want to add antifreeze too. I have done this procedure every year. Moving on, after switching to “winterize” in the convenient center, and putting my hose in the antifreeze bottle, I turn on the water pump. No draw. Thought maybe I had a loose connection. Pulled the wall and checked all connections and all looked good. Still no draw. Disconnected the inlet hose to the pump to see if there was any suction there. No suction. Any thoughts ??

Btw, discovered that the noise produced from running the pump was mostly the pex lines vibrating against the back of the convenient center wall. After cushioning that contact, barely notice the pump noise now.

Not sure if this will help as I usually only blow out the lines myself, but I have read that most people use 2 washers in the hose inlet for the winterize port to make a seal. Also, they say you will need to hold the jug of pink stuff above the inlet port so gravity can help draw it in. I guess the pump can't pull hard enough to prime.

Not really, but thanks for responding. The winterizing port is not at issue. Also, what good is a self priming water pump if you have to gravity feed it ? The same pump draws water from the fresh water tank some 25 feet to the rear of the RV without priming but needs priming from the winterizing port just 2 feet away ? Just saying.

My issue is with the pump itself. With the pump running, I feel no suction at the inlet port of the pump itself. Is there some sort of troubleshooting I could do ? The pump has always worked in the past. I know, things work until they don't. Just trying to figure out if there is a fix for this other than just throwing money at a new pump.

Just a guess, maybe the check valve is stuck? Sorry its not working for you. Are you sure it is not drawing air from somewhere?

Don’t know where the pump could draw air. I disconnected the inlet hose and felt no suction at the pump inlet at the pump itself. I’m looking for pump troubleshooting ideas.

Use an external pump to put antifreeze in. You need one anyway to refill your fresh tank unless you want to pull the rig to water.

Thank for your response.
The point of my question is clearly being missed. I am looking to the group for any TROUBLESHOOTING tips for a water pump that is not drawing water.

I thought I was having problems also, after blowing it out. I opened a faucet and let it run for a few minutes and it started pumping as normal. It did take a while to get pressure because all of the air in the lines.

Does anybody have any troubleshooting tips for a water pump with no suction at the inlet of the pump ?
Just the pump. Nothing but the pump.

I have no experience personally, but here are some possible references:
https://rvshare.com/blog/rv-water-pump-troubleshooting/
https://axleaddict.com/rvs/rvwaterpump
At least they are a place to start.

Another option is to call the manufacturer. They probably have a tech support group that has more experience with specific issues on their product.

On the Inlet side of the pump I would look for loose fittings. It sounds like it may be sucking air vs water

Most likely nothing to do with the pump. Take the cone tipped washer out of the winterize port and turn it around, the tip pushes the check valve open and the pump will draw the pink stuff. The pump can't pull the check valve open. Just remember to flip the cone washer back after winterizing so the check valve works.

Hard to get an answer or tips on my issue. I thought I made it clear the problem is not the winterizing valve. The problem is not the winterizing port. The problem is not air in the lines. The problem is not loose connections. The problem is at the pump. There is not suction on the inlet port on the pump. No lines are connected. The problem is isolated at the pump. Is there something I can troubleshoot on the pump ?
Guess I hit a brick wall.
Carl n Susan & jimcol, thank you.

Have you tried to put fresh water back in the tank and see if it picks it up and pumps it through the system ? If it does then drain the tank and blow the lines out and try what kencare said and make sure the selector is in the correct position. Or you may need a new pump.

a better title would be "Cannot get Water pump to pump antifreeze"

If you have checked everything else This is most likely it.
I also put my bucket on a ladder higher than the outlet so it is easier to draw.

BTW a better title would be "Cannot get Water pump to pump antifreeze"

Thanks everybody.
No one seems to understand what I’m asking.
The problem is not winterizing or getting water from the fresh water tank.
Forget that I asked.
Let’s just drop it.
Forget this thread ever got started.

Take the pump out, set yourself up a makeshift test system on the work bench with a bucket of water and a 12v battery to run the pump. If it doesn't pull water out of the bucket it could be the pump has something in it, might have a check valve on the suction side that is stuck, sometimes the pump has a inlet screen that could be plugged, or maybe the pump is just bad.
