Open Roads app
We have been using the Open Roads app with the associated fuel discounts for a couple of years new. Lately, while here in central Tx, for the last few months I have noticed that the local prices are 10-14 cents per gallon less that the OR price not including fees and commissions.
Anyone else noticing this discrepancy?

Not all dealers who accept Open Road (aka TSD or EFS) cards have prices lower than regular stations. You do have to look and see if the OR discount is worth it or does using a credits card, with 3, 4 , or 5% back, at a local station make more sense.

Carl, I understand that but the reason for my query is that since we have been using the card the TDS stations in our area and probably 90% of the areas we have visited in the last couple of years, literally coast to coast, have been cheaper. I am simply trying to get a feel if the truck stops that accept the TDS card are still giving a good enough discount to compete with the normal “gas stations”.
Thanks!

Out here is the west, OR discount stations are typically along the interstates. We try to avoid interstates when we travel. But in the last 12 months we have been in AZ, CA, WA, OR, ID, NV, UT, WY, MO, CO, NE, and IA. I check for OR stations anytime we are near a major interstate. To be honest, unless there is a TA or Speedway or Sapp Bros in the area, local stations are usually a better deal. We have been saving $0.80 to $1.00 per gallon at stations along the I-5 and Hwy-99 corridor in CA.

So we just signed up for the Open Roads fuel card, and not having ever used the card yet, how do you know what type of discount you are actually getting from truck stop to truck stop, and do you know it before your fill your tank?

when looking for a station using the app the price that you will pay for fuel is shown, it will not match the price you see at the pump. The app also tracks fuel purchases and what you save on each tank if I remember correctly. We have been very satisfied with the value of having it and it is nice to go through the truck lanes and not have to go inside.

Download the app. Simple as that! Shows you the price you pay but you must remember the charge by OR and the commission on the total sale as well. As stated above, the price on the pump will vary from the price you actually pay.

T/A and Petro seem to be about the highest discounts, but due vary from station to station. Just last week fueled up just outside Columbia, South Carolina and got $200.00 of fuel, ended up paying only $106.00. Can't argue with that.
