Main slide awning
Ordered a awning for the main slide today for the 13 3402.Big thanks to Steve Holmes and Ben Fisher of Keystone for verifying that the main slide would support the awning. Dometic for helping with the type and color of the awning. Camping Connection here in Florida for coming out to inspect and verify that everything was correct.
It will not be cheap but we used quality materials and experienced installers.
It will be our "RV mod for this year and something we have been want ing to get.
Oh and fellow MOC'ers Steve and Gina Young for letting us crawl all over their 14 Big sky to measure and take pictures of their OEM awning install. I like it when a plan comes together.

We had awnings installed on our big slide windows before we ever saw someone do that. Those awnings will not be replaced when they need to be, they'll be replaced with your type of installation. How you really enjoy it.

We always seem to be parked so that the sun blast through those windows. These pretty dark colored Big Sky's are great heat collectors also. We have those windows blocked with sun shades now so the awning should held out.

Rich is this new awning similar or the same as like what came on our 3160? We have one main awning that goes from the door towards the front of the unit and another that is mounted on the slide that goes from the door toward the rear of the unit. Ours has the outside TV/entertainment center and this awning keeps the sun and rain from ruining outside enjoyment. That is if one wants to indulge in watching TV while barbecuing. Now that I think about it it might be nice to have one on the off door side slide out also. Years back they used to make an awning that attached to the wall over your slide outs and then extended out past your windows so you had a slide topper and window awning all in one.
I am sure you will enjoy your new awning and I like your philosophy of buying a new item for your unit each year. Our new item this year is supposed to be a little trav'ler dish satellite.

It gives time to do the homework and save the $$$ .This year we added the Hensley Trailer saver on the truck as well as the awning. We put aside the $$ to pay for them .The satellite dish is on our list perhaps by the fall rally. We worked seasonal at Disneyworld four years at low wages and put aside the $$ for "goodies"

We added an awing to our slide with no problem at all. I did not go for the powered one just the old fashion pull down type. But it provides a hole lots more shade. We can put the table under the rear awing and our chairs and recliners under the main awing. Lots of added room.

We also went with the Manual awning. The after market power awning was a hassle to install and expensive. We saw the manual installation at the fall rally on a big sky and it is Ok with us.

Rich I am sure that you will be happy with the extra covered area the new awning will provide. Somebody needs to invent an awning etc that would cover the little gap left at the door. I slope both awning away from the door and it helps when it is raining but you still get wet.
I will probably not do much more for upgrades on our TV as it is decent but showing its age and we are planning on upgrading when I am closer to retirement. I guess that means I will just have to concentrate on the 3160.

We had the manual awning installed a couple of years ago and LOVE it. It really does help to keep the living room cooler on a hot sunny day. We also place the picnic table under it which opens up the larger awning for chairs. Tim

The awning is installed and we are happy with it. We do have a mystery. The main awning color does not match the Color of the installed main slide awning. We just found out that according to the build sheet for our Montana big sky the wrong awning is on our unit. The mystery that we are working on is how did that happen. It never ends.

here is a good one. In the above post I indicated a "Mystery" in that we found we had the wrong awning on our Montana. We asked Keystone to look into the "Mystery" Awning on our Montana OEM 917EH16.001U.Awning that should be on our Montana according to the build sheet.916GU16.00B.Different awing, different color. These are the replies.
"Good afternoon Rich,
Here is what I received form parts on what was provided with the unit, I hope it helps.

Dometic # 916GU16.000B

Well then can anyone explain how the awning that is on the unit OEM is 917EH16.001U
"Good morning Rich,
I have provided you with all of the information that we have on the unit according to the awning, there is no PDI issue recorded, so according to the factory, the information provided was the equipment provided. This will be KRV’s determination on this inquiry.
Thank you,
Ben Fisher

Nice cop out Ben. How would one know it was the wrong awning if it was on the unit when the PDI took place. The factory installed the proper awning but it was not on the unit when delivered now that is a good one. I did not ask for any compensation what I asked for was “So my question is how did MY Big Sky come up with the wrong color main awning.?????” In fact according to the sticker on the awning tube not just the wrong color fabric but the entire wrong awning..
We will take the hit for new fabric on the main awning as we intended .The switch in awnings will remain a mystery and your answer will remain a classic cop out,Thank you for the research.
I am speechless..

Rich. I have a question. Back in Jul 2015 you made a post about the color of the awning on your coach. Did that get resolved?

That post IS the resolution. According to my build sheet the correct awning was installed at the factory and that is that.

That is it.I went back and did a search on that post. I had completely forgot about that. Keystone was right the correct awning was installed at the factory and the dealer had to have put the improper awning on. I just posted that to Keystone.

Asked the Dealer for their paperwork on the awning replacement. Remember we never saw the awning that came with the Montana from the factory .We are now going to Dometic to determine how the awning changed??? The part # keystone says the Montana was shipped with and the part # the dealer ordered are two different numbers.
