Question Query: 3120RL King size bed ?

Was wondering if any one had any experience with making the King size more comfortable? Appears that the one we received is really hard mattress? in checking out pads the depth of the pads will run into the side shelves? Any one have any experience on this or can make some suggestions on how to deal with this?

We don't have your model, but like many others we replaced the original mattress on all three of our montanas with home type mattresses, once even before it left the dealer. In our cases we want bigger bedrooms and only need a queen size mattress so we also cut the support plywood back to queen size and then apply the home style mattress.

Hi, I purchased a 3" king topper for our bed and trimmed a few inches off of one side to have it fit perfectly. We have not slept a full night yet but the napping was ok.

We had a 72" X 80" X 8" thick latex foam mattress made, 4" dense core and 2" softer latex foam on both sides and it's fully upholstered on both sides so it can be flipped. It also has the two foot end corners made with a 12" radius like our original, and it has been extremely comfortable. We didn't want a memory foam mattress, so this has worked well for us, and the plus with this is, it weighs much less than the original inner spring mattress that came with our trailer. Before, the struts could not hold up the mattress to access the area underneath, but now, because it weighs so much less, it stays up just fine.

Same as DQDick, we cut down the platform and bought a queen mattress. We likely would have replaced the OEM mattress either way. They usually aren't very good or comfy.

The mattress that comes with the Montana’s are usually one of the first things to get changed. It is near impossible to find a mattress that satisfies everyone. My recommendation is to find one similar to what you use at home and are happy with. If you spend a lot of time in your Unit you will be inclined to spend even more. Best of luck with your new unit.

Mattress

I replaced mine with a Comfortair mattress, but they were taken over by Sleep Number. Sleep number does have a RV mattress if you want a rounded end if needed.

I know this doesn't help but this is exactly why I chose the queen bed over the king. There is zero room on the sides to make a king bed. Don't have that problem with the queen. Lots of room on each side.

If the pads you speak of are wider than the mattress you have it sounds like you're looking at standard king as opposed to a Cal King model, or vice versa. A Cal King model is longer and narrower by a couple of inches. The standard king is shorter but wider.

Just add a foam topper/mattress pad

We added a gel foam topper, 2 inches, as well as a down filled mattress pad and that was all it needed for a comfortable rest. We pull the mattress down to the dresser to make up the bed and then slide it back up to the headboard. We love the king bed and would not have purchased the camper without it!

Before we even left the dealer my wife purchased a 3" topper like many other have. I works for us.

We have the same rig with the same issue. We added a 3” mattress topper and sleep very good now.

3120 rl

We bought a foam mattress topper from Costco ( king) and cut it to fit. When we make the bed we pull the mattress down as far as we can and put the sheets on then push it back up and tuck it in on the bottom and thrown the comforter on top. It might be tight on the sides with a king but better than sleeping in a queen!

We replaced ours with one from Mattress Insider; they have RV sizes and are great to work with. While you are shopping, keep in mind an RV King is not the same size as a residential king. RV king is 72"x80". Residential king is 76"x80".

Most of the ones we looked at in mattress stores were 12+" deep; too much with the side shelves. We do not care for foam so settled on their 9" Park Meadow pocketed coil model.

https://www.mattressinsider.com/inne...attresses.html

It was a huge improvement over the OEM foam that compresses to nothing and leaves you sleeping in a hole. However, it was a little too firm so we put a 3lb gel topper on it. Just right now.

You need to find one that works for you, but these guys have the correct size, will actually answer the phone, and have a no risk trial.

A few years ago we purchased a memory foam type from Costco for our house. With a bad back it was a blessing - I sleep well on it. So when we purchased our 2019 3811MS I put the same kind in the 5er. Yes it fits tight at the bed stand. So my DW bought a couple beddys https://beddys.com/
Makes making the bed Easy & Fast. At 6'5" with a bad back I can put up with a little inconvenience of the size.
It's easy to get the foam matrices into the 5er but would be a challenge to get it out when the time comes.

We had the same issue as the OP with a new mattress hitting the shelves. A few screws, 10 minutes and the shelves are raised enough to be out of the way. Still tight though with the King but we prefer that over a Queen.

Measure. Then go buy your favorite residential mattress. The only thing to worry about is the height/thickness if it is supposed to fit in under a cabinet or closet during travel. Also consider thickness for easy of getting into the bed. My wife had issues with a 12". We went to a 10" instead.

Hi all. We also have replaced original king mattress in our 2018 305rl.
Went through 3 damaged mattresses from dealer. Finally bought mattress topper. Real king mattress size fits a little snug on sides so removed side slelves. Little inconvenience making up bed but love the full size. Have more room for the dog.
