I thought that I heard that Dometic had a recall on the thermostats and they were going to replace them?

They have been replacing them free since 2018 from my experience.....the replacements are just like the one you pulled off. 4 plus a spare on the last one and the new trailer acts just as "wacky" - not worth the inconvenience to deal with IMO.

This almost sounds too good to be true! I hope all continues to work as it is supposed to. I'll be looking into changing mine very soon.

Do you think it would work on our 2006 3500RL?

So I thought if it saved me one bad trip of fighting with it, I'd go ahead and buy one. It is USA made !!!! It came today. I just put it in. It took me 13 minutes to put it in , and that included reading how to do it. There was only 3 small 12v wires to move. That's it ! I attached the photos. Once I turned the power on, it worked immediately. No set up needed. It even has an app on my phone to show the entire display and control it via Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. It cycles AC and the furnace as needed. No flipping a switch. It also can have AC and the heat pump on ''auto' as well. I can set a time for when I want it to come on. How hot or cold I want it, and some other features I haven't found yet. Very Very simple to hook up and operate. If all goes well this week on the road, I'll be ordering another one for the bedroom. I'll update next week. I'm hoping the hot days and cool nights will give me a good feel for how good this thig is.
Thanks Randy.....

Randy, it's been a while since we last heard from you about the replacement A/C control. How are they working out? My wife and I were discussing it this last weekend, as our Dometic was operating on High and freezing us. Then again it was 104 outside.

So far they both are working very well. Unfortunately it’s been cool here so the AC is not needed. But the heat pump is working very well without issues.
I was so happy with the Micro-Air product, I ordered 2 new Micro-Air Easy Start’s for Both of my rooftop units. I haven’t had a chance to install them yet, but it’s only 4 wires to connect in up on the roof. It reduces start up power to about 16 amps. Protecting the compressor, reducing noise, reducing power load. They claim you even run 1 AC unit on small generator. I don’t use a generator, but I do hope it reduces power as they advertise. I’m sure it works good too. Now I just have to get up top and install it. The best part is it is “MADE IN THE GOOD OL USA”.

Thanks for the update Randy. I'm very glad to hear the thermostat is still working well. I got mine in some time ago but my trailer is still in the shop (in 5 days it will be 2 months) so it's sitting in the corner waiting for me to install it.

Randy quick question, did the new unit cover all the holes of the Dometic one? I read a review that the new one is smaller than the Dometic and that it comes with plugs to fill those holes.

They do not cover the holes as you can see in this video. But I have the same control as in this video and it's a plug and play with the telephone wire set up. Going to order one soon!

It covered the old holes but as soon as i get time i will organize the switches and tstat a little better. But the tstat has been functioning perfectly, it’s nice to turn the ac or heat on remotely, as we are heading to camp.

I picked mine up last week and installed it and it works great. Micro air is actually 10 miles from my house passed it every day for the past three years and just figured it was a large HVAC company. I had dropped the t stat and broke the screen I dropped it off and they replaced it for me within an hour or so. I got the tour of the facility and met a lot of the employees, they are a real nice bunch of people, definitely customer service oriented. Sure glad I read this post because Dometic can’t seem to fix the issues with their thermostats

I have to thank Randy Elsey for this original post and upgrade. I installed two new Micro-Air thermostats and I put in their EasyStart modules for my Dometic Blizzard NXT air conditioners. I really had no way of testing them until I arrived at my destination (San Diego). All I have to say is everything is working perfectly. Low/High/Auto all works. It is so nice to now set your thermostat and forget about it. As for the install, the thermostats are two screws to hold them in place and three wires. There were no exposed holes, as the new units completely cover the two holes of the Dometic units. I downloaded the Micro-Air app on my phone and the units can be controlled, via bluetooth or the internet. Having your phone next to you in bed and controlling both A/C units worked perfectly.

The EasyStart system can look a little frightening when looking at the schematics, but if you Google the system, you can watch a video on how simple it is. When you download the installation & directions, it gives you several installation instructions for these units (DuoTherm, Brisk, Brisk II, Penguin, Pdnguin II, and Blizzard NXT). On my units there are 9 screws holding the A/C lids on. Once unbolted, there is a large foam cover over the motor and everything else. There is a sheet metal rectangular box that has 4 screws holding it down, unbolt that, and then there are 2 more screws holding the lid to the box on. Remove those two screws and you will now be looking at the run capacitor & a circuit board. My particular unit also had a small start-up capacitor, that is connected to the larger run capacitor. (unplug and remove the small start-up capacitor) (Prior to all this, turn your fuses off to the A/C, and discharge any remaining power in the capacitor with an insulated screwdriver). The new EasyStart system has only 4 wires, with two (Orange & White having two quick connect connectors already installed. The orange wire goes to the Herm and the white goes to the C of the run capacitor. The two other wires (Brown & Black) are spliced into existing wires (Blue & White). The blue and white wires lead from the compressor, with the white attaching to the run capacitor and the blue leading to a circuit board next to the run capacitor. The black wire of the EasyStart attaches to the blue and the brown attaches to the white. I used butt connections on the blue and white wires, crimped them really well and then used electrical tape on them too. On the outside of the foam cover there is a flat spot where I attached the EasyStart module with strong double sided tape. After doing the first A/C unit, which I spent about 90 minutes on, the second one I had finished in about 45 minutes. I wish I took some photos of installing the EasyStart, but I was pressed for time.

Anybody having issues with their Dometic thermostats really need to consider this system. It really does work. For the two units, you're looking at $500.00. The EasyStart systems were $600.00 for two units. If you have no idea what the EasyStart system is, just Google it and watch their video. It will make a believer out of you on how it can cut the amount of power it takes to start your A/C systems by 60-70%. This can be most beneficial for someone wanting to buy a generator, and not a huge one at that. After installing the system, you can run your A/C off a 30 amp site, and/or plug into at your home's 20 amp utility power.
