New full time RV life

My name is Jan. I just bought my first RV 5th wheel to live in full time on private property. I’m still in the process of down sizing, but loving it!

Welcome to the forum! We've been full timing for over 9 years with home bases in Kansas and New Mexico, hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Since you're on private land and if it's a place that can get cold at night you might want to consider what we do in New Mexico and have a house sized propane tank added to your spot. It really saves a lot of trips to fill tanks and most places is also cheaper.

Build a roof over it ASAP. Then watch every day for water to leak anywhere there is a pipe!! Down under, in cabinets everywhere. Black mold is not good. Find an rv tech to call since you can’t move it easily for dealership repair. Enjoy downsized living it’s fun. Last, pray it doesn’t cause problems

Welcome to the MOC. Personally I would not build a roof over the rig. Just routinely inspect the roof for any damage. Pay particular attention to caulking, front cap, rear cap, vents, windows, etc. We fulltimed over six years, and now snowbird in Florida in the winter and enjoy living in our rig. Hope you will as well.

WHAAAAT...

Cannot resit: you got all that from the OP introducing them selves, mentioning private land (who knows where), and down sizing, OMG

To the OP congrats on your journey, best wishes...

Welcome to the Forum. If you have a question this is THE place for answers. And it's answers you can trust!

If your going to be staying in one spot on the private land then the roof over does make some sense. A storage building is also very handy, particularly if you can put a washer and dryer in it. In fact, I have seen several roof overs with a building added on the back end. Just make sure the door is easy in and out.

A small BBQ is also a very good add. Maxima makes one that is about 15" round and can be fueled by either a 1 gallon little bottle or adapted to something larger. We plan on getting one and mounting it to our porch rail. It will be far more practical than the big honking 5 burner monster I bought first.......

Good luck to you.

Welcome and best wishes! Lots of good information here. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You will get a good reply.
Wife and I have been fulltiming over 11 years and no second thoughts. We own 3 5th wheels. One semi permanent in Georgetown Tx. Another semi permanent on 10 acres we own outside Ruidoso NM. Our third is in storage in Georgetown that we use to travel around the US 4-6 months a year.

We will be in Ruidosa this weekend!! Not with the camper though. Ours is semi permanent (till we retire that is) just south of Artesia.
