Ford Diesel Owners

Tried a search but didn't find anything on the subject so here goes.

Had our truck into Ford and just picked it up today after having it serviced. Several problems with the transmission having to be fixed with the turbo - no power etc. One concern was the chatter after you accelerate and let off the pedal......according to a service manager this is what they said was the turbo blowing back exhaust through the airfilter when you let off the accelerator. Have any of you experienced this? The other concerns with acceleration they said was with the turbo, chip and egr valve. Jack has a call back as he said it acted up coming home just not wanting to accelerate.

Looked at a new one today so trading in may be in the near future

Thanks for any input on this matter.

Safe travels.

Go to dieselman.com he has article about this same issue in there. It is a non Ford approved website from Ford Diesel mechanics and they list trouble shooting and codes on web site.

Dieselmann's site is a good one. The link I have for that is http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/home.html . Scroll down and click on dieselmann's bulletin page, then click on the link for 6.0 and TorqueShift bulletins. He has all of them listed there.

We've not had the problem described but it does sound like you're hearing exhaust out the waste gate. Something is definitely not right there.

Thanks to you both. Steve, you are right they keep saying some stuff is normal.........NOT.....we will drive it more this weekend and see what happens and then back it will go. As you might remember this was one of the first '03's produced but after only having it 2 years this coming Tues and 22,300 miles we shouldn't be having it in the shop as much as we have - I know there are others with worse experiences. Seems every time we leave town we end up spending a few extra days places while waiting to get the truck into the dealer. Would like to be able to leave town in April and not have to have work done on the road

Again thanks for the website.

Safe travels.

2003 was the first year of the 6.0L Diesel. Had a bit of growing pains. By 2004 Ford had it worked out pretty good. Most of the problems were with the injectors.

Lorraine, we also had one of the first 6.0's and had trouble with it stalling. Once they sorted that out it was awesome but it was frustrating until then. The '05 seems to have it all sorted out so I think those problems are in the past. We've had this one 3 1/2 months and have 11,000 (well, 10,9xx actual) on it.

I have the 2005 6.0 and truely cannot find anything I do not like about it. All the problems even back to the 7.3 and new 6.0 seem to have been addressed.
It is quiet and smooth, mash the accelerator and better be ready, it will get up to speed like right now. And the fuel economy is great.
There is a new technology I hear is due out in 2007. A camless diesel. Smaller lighter and even more power. But I do not believe I will be in line for it the first year out. The potential however is awsome. A camless gas eng has been test run to 15000 RPM.

Rick, any word on the theory behind the camless engine? How does fuel get into the cylinders and exhaust out? Or are there pushrods somehow running off the crank?

It does seem like they got all the bugs out that the first '03's had - other than the programs that weren't staying for the turbo (which the last one was done in Reno and stayed) we really haven't had any trouble until the last spree with the loss of power on take off. The performance on these trucks is fantastic, no complaints - just hoping the last time in the shop is the last in regards to the turbo.

I did hear that they are changing the transmission for the 07's to accommodate the power in the engine.

Safe travels.

Could it be a two stroke simular to a bike 2 stroke?
