Need a tool

We will be attending the rally at Coos Bay and encountered a slide cable problem while we are working our way there. A cable has become frayed and needs to be replaced. I was able to find a cable kit at a dealer in North Salt Lake but after reading the directions I will need a 5/32 swag tool and cable cutter that I don’t have with me. Is there a possibility that someone that will be attending has this tool?

Hi,
My hubby, Richard has the swag tool. We are getting into Coos Bay on Monday. If someone has a Drexel, he says that could be used as a cable cutter. We have had the same problem on the road. We have an extra cable kit.

I have a right angle grinder that can cut the cable you are welcome to use. We now are also arriving on Monday to have the disc brakes installed prior to the start of the rally.

I just replaced a cable and have a spare kit plus the swag tool and cable cutters. I will be there on Tuesday if you can wait that long.

We will be arriving on the 19th and need to address this ASAP. Can’t fit into the bedroom with slide in. I do have the cable kit and Dremel to cut the wire. I’m still in need of the swag tool to crimp the Ferrule. Thanks to all for your help.

Which cable is frayed?

If it is the "IN" one, then you can extend the slide without issue. When you want to put the slide back in, put the DH outside pushing on the corner with the frayed cable. Do not let the slide come all the way in where it would put excessive pressure on the cable.

If it is the "Out", I haven't had to play with that one (yet). I am not familiar with a FK model. Assuming you can access the bedroom somehow, the idea should be the same. Crawl into the bedroom and press on the corner with the fray. Don't let it fully extend. Or, if you can crawl in to the bedroom, leave it where it is for the time being.

So far both Marilynd and I have offered the use of the swag tool (plus a cable cutter). There will be lots of assistants ready to help.

Where are you now? We are coming from the south on 101. If we are close, you can have tools tomorrow.

I appreciate all the offers of help. We are currently on Rt 20 in Juntura coming from the Southeast. Hope to be in Bend tomorrow afternoon. It’s an In cable at the top left as your facing it from the inside. It’s frayed 3/4 of way thru so to be on the safe side I will wait till we get into Coos Bay to deploy the slide. Don’t want the cable to snap and get lost in the wall. I’m going to see if they will have an open space a day earlier which would get us in on Tuesday.

With all of the help you will have when you get there You might want to stop and get a case of an adult beverage to share with your new best friends.

Just don't tell them about it until after the cable has been fixed.

Instead of using the ferrules, you can also, in a pinch, use two small cable clamps from Home Depot. I carry some 3/16" cable clamps and a full set of 4 cables.

With so many new best friends and especially since the knowledge of adult beverages being on site is now "out there"... the job might never get done.
