Your BEST 2014 Story!

We have many adventures, many experiences and lots of interesting things happen to us during the year, while out in our Montana's. I love to hear good stories. Here is the best story of our 2104.

We are camping in Red Bluff at the Durango RV resort. Our first trip with the Montana and we are there to pick up our new Labrador puppy. Our neighbor and I and sitting in our folding chairs, just chatting and having a nice time. Another camper, a few spaces down, who has had more than one glass of wine, walks up and says "hello." We return the salutation, and then he asks, "I understand that you just bought that," pointing to our Montana. I said excitedly, "yes, we just got it!" to which he replies, "That will be the WORST purchase of your entire life!" I said, "Excuse me?" And he says, "You will regret that purchase for the rest of your live, it is a bad purchase!" Still confused, I asked him why he said that.

He said, "Do you know how many vacations you could take for the price of that RV?" Ahh, at least he wasn't criticizing the brand of RV. So then I retorted, "I don't know about that, my wife and I took a cruise last year (2013) that cost MORE than the new Montana!" You should have seen his face! So I explained that we had taken a two week Baltic Cruise aboard an Oceania Cruise Liner and had stayed in a 2,000 square foot villa on the boat with our own work out room, two walk in closets, the bedroom separate from the living room and a full kitchen. The cost of the cruise, excursions and extra hotel stays (4 nights in London to start and 3 nights in Stockholm at the end) was more than the cost of the Montana.

I also explained that we had already taken three road trips earlier in the year (Oregon, Colorado, Arizona), using our car, and had racked up over $5,000.00 in hotel costs, a total of 42 nights in hotel rooms. So I told him that we are saving a TON of money using the RV, $40 bucks a night vs $150, plus all the added benefits.

He just lowered his head and said, "Well, you guys vacation very differently than I do." I just thought it was rather rude for him to walk up to me and start criticizing our RV purchase, even before he introduced himself. I will say that for the next few days, he was extremely nice and pleasant, I think once he sobered up, he realized how unpleasant he had been.

Eva and I still chuckle when we talk about that story!

Let's here some good stories from YOU!!!

Folks like that are the reason to have a home with an ignition key It's also a reason we enjoy work camping instead of staying in parks.
My weird story of the year would be: We were at our RV home base this summer and Joyce was concerned I'd be bored, which she considered a problem for her. Last year I helped build a food distribution building. So I was out for my morning walk and passed the Mayor in his front yard and told him if he had a project going on that I could do without interfering with my working at our store when necessary, I'd be happy to help. Two days later he was knocking on our trailer door and telling me the City Council had met and voted me the City equipment operator and would I take the job, so I ended up with a summer job without even looking for one.

This story could fit in many places in this forum. Buying my first 5th wheel, my first Montana and my first truck is almost as rewarding as finding MOC. I am addicted. I have never learned as much nor become as excited about our future (Chris doesn't retire until last day of February, 2015). So 2014 is our inaugural year and it couldn't have started off better. I hope we can become good friends with many of you.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
