Tie rod ends almost never fail while you are moving at speed because the stress on them is not nearly as much as when you are stopped or only slightly moving. I'm not saying it can't happen, only that it's relatively rare. Ball joints are similar - unless you hit a pot hole or some other object.

That was the correct thing to do. Better to spend a little more than to have a serious problem later. Glad no one was hurt.

I agree Tom...matter of fact, this happened as I made a sharp turn pulling away from a short boat ramp with a not so short boat.

Got the call late today...truck's ready, will pick up in the morning before heading to hospital for pre-op. total damages, $1,051.00...that's 2 tie-rod ends, 4 ball joints, alignment, new ceramic pads on the front and a transmission service/filter. I think I did ok.
