Thanks Ozz for this website. As a widow of one of those names on the wall, I always appreciate that others have not forgotten. I have been to the wall many times, with my children, who were only 3 and 5 when their father was KIA, and grandchildren and have left numerous items. Tom is also a Vietnam Vet and has visited the wall with me. To us it is a place of memories and thankfulness. Memories of an unsettled time for our country and thankfulness for all those who were willing to give the ultimate so we can enjoy the freedoms we have in this country today. God Bless all the Vets out there!!!

I am a old time vet who was never really in harms way. We do have a family member on "the wall" KIA 5-22-70 near Binh Thuan
Panel 10W-Row 083. 21 years old.Our family has served in evey war since the civil war (on both sides)..

Every citizen should visit The Wall. People who have never been to it or did not serve 'over there' say "it's only a wall." I guarantee anybody will feel differently once there, it is a very special place.

Been to the wall, very moving. I was lucky and was not in harms way either.
I am so glad that the vets of today are not getting the abuse we received here at home in the 70's. I am still a little bitter about it.

Dianna and I both were remarking today after watching "Were Soldiers" how fortunate we have been as families. Members of the families have served in all the wars back to an including the Civil War, but not one of the relatives has been lost in battle. They have served in all branches of service. All our uncles who flew B-17s in WW II are now gone. One of them wrote a story about all 25 of his bombing missions over Germany after he was 70 years old. It was very healing for him.
Although we feel fortunate to be so blessed, we are grateful to all who have served, living and dead. My days in the Marines were bracketed by Korea and Nam, but my brothers served during the Nam era.

Ozz (Jim), Hope this is a healing step for you. Like some of the others, I was "not quite there". I was in the Army for the entire time of our active participation but never went "in country". I served in Thailand for a while but that was as close as I got. I have several friends whose names are on the wall. Bless them all, all 55,000 of them. Bob

Our Viet Nam vets deserve our gratitude. It was an unpopular war to say the least. These soldiers came home and were treated very poorly. My brother was one of those who served in Viet Nam. To this day, he does not talk about it. He is not the same person who went there.
Al was in Korea during the Viet Nam war. When he came home on leave, he learned quickly that he could not wear his uniform in public. This is so sad that we as a country sent these young men out there to fight for us and our freedoms we all enjoy today, and then jeered at them when they returned home. It just blows my mind.

The night time at the Viet Nam memorial offers the time to reflect the thoughs. If you were in country you know what I mean. Thanks to all my Brothers, just remember, all gave some but some gave all. GBY.........

Don was in the Army during Vietnam and went to Germany. His cousin who went to boot camp with him went to Vietnam and came back.
Remember the POW bracelets? I wore one until the pilot came back. Saw him get off plane. Tried to send him the bracelet and it came back. I kept it all these years. About 10 years ago I ran accross a web site of POW's,his name was there with an email address. I emailed him,told him I had that bracelet with his name on it all these years and it was time he had it. He sent me his address and I sent it to him. He was a captive for over 6 years.
Lives in Dallas TX now.
I got to tell him personally how much I appreciated his service.
I received some really nice emails from him.

Ozz, We have been to the wall several times, and with friends that come into town since we only live 60 miles from DC. I have several friends names that are on the wall and remark how lucky we are to be able to remember their sacrifices and pay tribute to them. One tour in Laos, and two in Viet Nam flying took its toll. Thanks to all of the vets, in all the wars, who gave their time and effort so we can have the freedom to vote, worship, and do the thing we all take for granted.

The answer to your question is because in the good old USA, and our form of government, when Uncle Sam says "go to war" we pack our gear and go to war...it's what we do as good patriotic citizens. Our belief in the cause makes no difference, as soldiers we do as we are told. It's one of the things that makes us great a great country.

Tlightning, your answer to my question is correct. But thats not why we were there. You don't have to tell me what a Patriotic citizen does. I spent 26 yrs watching our flag go up and down. And if you spend as many hours at the Vietnam Vet memorial as I have you would still ask why. Just what did we accomplish. I know we lost more than 59,000 good Soldier. GBY....

Been to The Wall many many times, and have many of my comrades names there. We did not lose the war, our government did.
4th and 25th Infantry Divisions, 1967 - 1968.
1st Aviation Brigade, 1970 - 1971.
