Courteous Drivers

Since the DW retired 01/05 we have traveled 33 states and we are not fulltimers as we still have the ol'stick home and 5 grandkids in WI. We are in the process of returning to WI from New England. We have encountered the most courteous drivers in MAINE!!! From changing lanes to trying to get in traffic when we were in an area and also being a pedestrian. The worst has been in AZ and FL. We look forward to returning to ME.

I vote for FL... We were talking about the worst, right? More specifically - Central FL. Even more specifically - I-4 in and around Orlando. JMHO.

I agree. We go to Ma. in the summer to work for USACE and the people there are curtious drivers. Their roads are the worst in the world. Here in Fl. I have to say are the worst drivers or very close to that. I have to thank the court system (all the way from the County Court System to the State Supreme Court System) for interpetation and conviction, and our Politicians for the stupid laws and lack of laws. Other than that, when in Fl be a very conservative driver. Enjoy our state. It is beautiful.

Actually my thrust was to compliment the ME drivers. OF course, couldn't resist sticking it to FL & AZ. I was surprised Eagle Man that most of the people we came in contact with spoke like normal people. Surprisingly, the vast majority of people we had contact with were not from ME, but were transplants. I still can't get used to pronouncing it Baa Haa Baa(Bar Harbor).

Central Florida, Orlando area is indeed the worst in Florida driving, especially on South I-4 near Disney, Universal and International Drive area. Pedestrians in Florida don't have a chance.

Living in Florida all my life I have witnessed drivers becoming almost "evil" but they do often use directional signals. I often thought that excused poor driving.

Be careful when in Central Florida. Oh, many Fla drivers came from somewhere else!!!

Isn't it funny that the closer you get to a city, the less the cars come equipped with turn signals?

Dave and Carla, I find it interesting that you posted this. Vicki and I spent just over a month in Maine in August/September and we both commented to each other this same thing. The only additional observation I'd make is it seemed Subaru drivers were less courteous and always in a hurry. They tended to tailgate and sometimes pass in a no passing zone (I wasn't going that slow!). But Maine overall did impress us with the degree of driving courtesy. It was a real pleasure. Now if they could just fix the roads!

Hi Steve, I guess we weren't in ME long enough(2 wks) as we didn't run into any discourteous drivers and I don't recall seeing any Subarus. You are right about their highways though. We broke a leaf spring on the Monty and also somewhere, neither Carla or I can recall seeing the area, they must have recently painted the yellow center line as the Dodge now has lots of yellow paint on the drivers side that I have gotten off the white paint, but still have lots on the step rail and also in the wheel wells.

I thought Steve Reigle's post was interesting about the Suburu's.

Then I realized. Could it have been the same suburu driver following you around!!!
