Cleaning Rubber Roof ??

While at my dealer for a refer repair I mentioned to the service rep that I had just cleaned the rubber roof with Joy dish soap. He then asked me if I had sealed the roof after the cleaning, it is mandatory. I haven't seen anything that refers to sealing the roof after the cleaning process. Was he blowing smoke for more business or is this something that should be routinely done?? How about some help.
