entry steps carpet

We recently put carpet on our steps after Diana fell coming out of the RV. The mats that we used were given to us by the dealer we purchased our unit from. They have a plastic shoulder on the outer and inner edges and sort of clamp on the steps. I also have them secured through 4 holes with nylon ties and they are very secure. The problem we now have is the steps will not close completely with the mats in place.
My question is to the ones who use the wrap around mats that CW sells is do you have similar problems with them.
Or am I doing something wrong with the mats we are using.(If you understand my description. I have never seen mats like these before but I have only been RV'ing a few years.)
Thanks

Mike,
We have the ones from CW and the steps close up fine and we really like them. They keep a lot of dirt from coming in.

Sorry to hear that Diana fell, we hope that she did not have any serious injuries. I bought our step carpets at CW and have no problem at all with the steps closing completely. I am not familiar with the type of carpet you have described but someone on the forum will probably come along that knows about it.

We also have the outdoor step mats from CW. Had them since '03 and they work just fine. Wouldn't be without them!

Since I am partially disabled we have to be very careful about steps. We are on our 3rd set of ones from CW. We've been at this a long time - our 3rd 5er. Our others weren't worn out we just wanted our new Monty to have new rugs. We have no trouble closing the steps. It sounds like that plastic shoulder you described may be keeping the steps from closing. Plus it sounds like something I would trip on. The ones from CW last a long time so it is money well spent. I hope Diana continues to be okay from the fall.
Happy trails..........................

In agreement with others, have the carpet that connects underneath with springs like the ones from CW but we bought them at a local dealer. They work fine, keeps dirt out of the trailer, provides security from slipping on the slick steps and keeps the dog from hanging her toenails in the holes on the steps.

Thankyou for the feedback. You stated the obvious like I thought you would. I'm getting tired of taking these on and off, and we have a CW in town. Time for me to make a trip over there. I have to keep my sweetie safe.
Thanks again

I just picked some up at Wal Mart. They came three to a pkg. with the springs included. Can't remember the price but definitely less than CW. We really like them and so does our dog!

We've had good luck with the ones from CW. Just put them on and that's it. They've been safe and help to keep mud from being tracked in.

Ditto for the ones from CW or our dealer. We've worn out 2 sets so far and are on our 3rd set. We wouldn't be without them.

To replace the original set we had, I bought some outdoor carpet from Home Depot, and used the old ones as templates. Cost about 1/3 or less the amount than the sets at RV places. Another advantage is I bought the thicker carpet, which is really nice to step up on to.

We buy about one every other year and put the newest one on the top step and rotate the older ones down a step, tossing the oldest one away as it normally looking pretty shabby by then. Like everyone else says they work great for stoping dirt and grime from entering the trailer.

Well i`ll be the odd guy out here.We had the ones from Camping World also.Even matched the color of our Montana. For me I just didn`t like the way they looked.I replaced them with the "Sure Step"which is also sold at Camping World. It covers the step and is screwed on in the front.Has nice deep rubber groves to catch dirt and for good traction. On the bottom step I installed another "Sure Step"but this one has a light on it.When you enter the rig it goes on and when you exit the rig it goes on as well. Its powered by 6 AA batteries which last a season. And also gives you 25% more step space. The light protion is as long as the step and never has to be replaced.
