Location of Reese 16K hitch

The dealer says to install the Reese 16K hitch about 5" behind the center line of the rear axle. Other dealers recommed installation be one inch in front of the axle center line. Any opinions or experience with this? Just ordered the Mountaineer 298RLS yesterday.
