Is something wrong with my awning?
When I open our awning I'm getting fairly consistent about extending the top support so far forward toward the awning (where it’s supposed to be) that as a result, I sometimes find myself retrieving part of the arm after it comes apart and slaps into the side of the Monty. The inside sliding arm is just too short and then I say “oops” again! The front mount is located where it can not be fully extend to the open position that I think it should be in.
It looks to me like someone has shortened part of the support arm in order for it to close up when rolled up. I can understand this if it has to be that way in order to mount it but I’m thinking that when it’s fully open I should be able to fully extend the support arm all the way out. FYI, I’m pretty sure that this awning was put on in 2006 the year just before we bought it.
If you look close in the photo below you can see that the top arm isn’t reaching all the way to the top. Was this installed the wrong way here or is this the way most all of them are set up?

Bill,
I e-mailed a couple of pics to your church e-mail of our awning fully deployed. Something does not look right with the arm extension on yours as you mentioned. On ours there is a gray plastic clip which holds the arm fully extended. Are you sliding the arm completely past it before tightening the knob. Trying to be of help, but not sure if this will help.

Bingo, your awning does go all the way to the clip that catches and locks in place. Ours don't, the inside of the awning arm will pull apart before I can get to that point. Looks like I need to order a new arm support and cut it to fit myself.

Bill,
I have a 3400RL like Bingo and I don't have that problem. One thing when they replaced the awning a few months ago, insurance paid for new hardware and one awning support is longer than the other. The shipment only contained two short supports so we left the old one on. That may give you the extra height you need.
Just a thought.

Bill,
I agree with your assumption. The nose awning top support that runs parallel with awning is too short. In its current position it allows a lot of flap on the awning material. Tie downs will help prevent it but I agree the arm is too short if it pulls out as you describe. Some RV places may have a replacement arm in their "junk" pile.
Good luck.

Update!
Well I may have this situation resolved. I had to hook up the Monty and move it so I could open the awning for measurements. The top rafter support in the front outside is 54" long and the inside rafter was 32.5" long. These arms come in different lengths and evidently somebody messed up somewhere in ordering the wrong one. I have a longer inside rafter piece on order that should be in hopefully by the week end.
