WD-40 on slide seals?
Keystone left a royal mess with caulking up and down the slide seals which then smears all across my slide walls when extending and retracting. I am cleaning (read SCRUBBING) it off with a rag and WD-40. Question is, will it (WD-40) harm the rubber seals in any way, and do I need to get it off or can I just leave the WD-40 residue in the inner an outer seals? Man, if they had just been slightly more caring in their workmanship, and cleaned up just a little, they could have saved me a big bunch of work.
I looked on the web site at their technical data sheet and it says:
"Surface Compatibility
For all variations : WD-40 demonstrates none to negligible deleterious effect to
plastic, rubber, and metal hard surfaces. This includes Acetal, neoprene/hard
rubber, HDPE, PPS Copolymer Polysulfone, Teflon, Viton, steel, galvanized steel
hot dip, electroplated, copper, brass, magnesium, nickel, tin plate, titanium, and
zinc."
So, it sounds like it is harmless enough. Thoughts?

After cleaning the slides, I recommend wiping the seals with baby powder, applied with and old sock. Seemed to help a bit and I read that it helps preserve the rubber.

Mark, I love WD-40, but I think I would go with the commercially available seal conditioner, just to be on the safe side.

I don't think the WD40 hurts anything, but I would wipe off and then apply whatever you normally use.

Unless wiped off, the WD-40 will collect dirt and dust and create an even bigger problem. It's a petroleum product and will collect dust and dirt, I don't care what they say on the website or can. As had been said above use a commercial gasket conditioner. I use 303 and it works like a champ and will not collect the dirt or dust. Really makes the gaskets pliable also.

I'm with Rondo and Ozz on this one. Don't use wd40 for anything on the rig because it will hold dirt and use a commercial seal treatment twice a year.

The only thing I use WD40 for is loosening rusted bolts. Dry lube or silicone is better for lubricating parts.
