microwave/convection oven
Our new Montana 3700 RL has a convection microwave. I have never cooked in one and would love to hear about others experiences and recipes.
Thanks,
Susan

Our last two Montanas had convection/microwave combo units as do most I am guessing. The DW had never used one but started using the convection and really likes it. She does a lot of cooking and she only uses the oven about once a month now.

DW likes it so much that she agreed to have the propane oven removed and replaced with a dishwasher. All we have in the new rig is the combo microwave/convection oven and a cooktop. It does take some experimenting and practice, but this is our third and she definitely likes them!

We've had one in the S&B and our camper for YEARS and never used it. Started using the one in the Monty a few months ago. Haven't turned on the gas oven since.

Have never used the gas oven. Start with something easy like sausages wrapped in biscuit dough and work your way up from there. Once you get used to it you can modify any of your favorite recipes to work with it. Over time you'll also find air bake pans or other types of baking implements that work best for you.

Are there any micro/convection ovens that can squeeze into the spot my present microwave does?

we use ours as well, but note when traveling either remove the glass plate or it could slide and break the front window or break the gismo that turns the plate, been there done that

Model and year of your rig will probably result in more reliable suggestions. Just a thought.

Good point Bingo !
We have a Cougar 245rks a cousin to the Montana, it has the typical small microwave that comes with the smaller 5th wheels. I'm sure that's a big help:-)
It does have a few inches side to side to play with but I'm not sure of the depth. Next time I'm at the storage facility I'll get the actual numbers and get back here.
Thanks
Ron W.

DW loves ours. So do I. Good stuff comes from there. Took a little effort to learn, but worth it.

I found out that the combo bake will burn cakes much faster than normal ovens!

Sorry guys, just can't pass on this one.
Susan asked for user experiences and recipes and a bunch of guys respond with how much their DW's love them. Let's hear from the experts cause we would like recipes as well.

Funny, everyone I have talked to says they love the convection oven too. My experience has not been great with ours. It seemed to burn everything on one side, so I tried rotating the crescent rolls I was cooking halfway through last time. The tops were beautiful and evenly brown so I thought I had mastered the technique - until I took them off the sheet and saw the bottom was basically uncooked.
I'm not quite ready to give up yet. I talked to an appliance repairman that lives in my neighborhood and he asked if I was preheating the convection oven just like I would a regular oven. Nope, because it takes too long and patience is not one of my virtues. He seems to think that is my problem since the convection oven, just like a regular oven, has a preheat cycle where the element heats quickly to raise the temperature. We're going out this weekend and I'm going to try fully preheating before I use it. Wish me luck. I'll post my results in hopes it will benefit someone else.

I love my convection oven in my S&B, but I'm chicken to try it in the Monty. So far I've only ever used the microwave mode.

Just follow the instructions on preheating and you are good to go. Just like in a regular oven some things can be cooked without preheating. My Manual that came with it gives a pretty good outline. Cook the came length of time unless it is over an hour and then you can reduce the time some. Once you get used to it your won't use the "hard to light" oven much at all
