Suspension Heads Up
So this year I noticed that I had problems getting my Roto Chocks under the wheel skirts and figured I should understand why before going to the fall rally. My inspection revealed that the rubber shear spring on both axles has started to separate from the backing plates by about an inch and a half which has allowed the trailer to sit lower causing my problem. Called Mor Ryde and was informed that the life of the spring is 7-10 years and I'm coming up on year 7. So two new springs are on the was at $129 each, can hardly wait to do this job BTW checked a friends Montana which is a year newer and the separation is almost as bad. FYI when I inspected the area last year while repacking the bearings I noticed some cracking but no separation.

Replaced my rubber shear springs last year. Same condition as you described. Mor-Ryde was very helpful in ordering the replacements.

If you did it yourself, could you describe the installation process you used?

Haven't done it, but saw the Fellows at MORryde doing it. Looked like it took them longer to get the wheels off than to replace the sheer springs.

If you have level up, lift fiver off tires. If you don't have level up I'd leave fiver hooked to truck, jack up one side of the frame so tires clear and crib it front and back. Remove tires. Place a couple of floor jacks (or equivalent) under each axle near the spring perches and take a bit of the weight off. Remove inner shackles from spring eyes. Remove shear spring. Swap hardware to new shear spring and install. Torque down bolts holding shear spring in place. Reattach shackles and grease if you have wet bolts, Put tire back on. Repeat on other side.

I guess we need clarification: Are we talking the Sheer Springs in the MORryde IS, or the Rubber section of the Center equalizer of standard spring suspension. My response was to the IS.

My last response was concerning the Mor/ryde LRE 4000 suspension not the IS. I think that is what the OP's thread is about.

Waiting for the poster to answer, but he's a 2010 unit, and probably the LRE.

Yes it's an LRE3000. Will do it myself the only thing to slow the process is I have the one piece xfactor. I expect the setup to do the job will take the most time (hitchup blocking removing the wheels).

OK, my bad. As we had put the IS on our 2010 Montana, just assumed the referenced Shear spring was associated with the IS.

Had to replace one side sheer spring on our. I believe repair shop used it as a jacking point but can't prove it because I did not notice it for a few trip. While replacing, went ahead and installed the MorRyde Xfactor crossmember for 100 bucks. Figured it won't hurt to have the added support.

By any chance would your extended warranty cover this?

Mine was under the 3 year MorRyde warranty. Shipped to me with instructions and return label. Great customer service at MorRyde. Maria at MorRyde even told me where the cheapest place to buy Xfactor.

Will be replacing our shear springs this fall also....Keystone very helpful in getting the parts....also...the springs have a code on them which indicates the density and weight rating of the shear springs....it does seem like the prep for preparing the 5th wheel to replace the shear springs will be longer than the actual job...

Just replaced the LRE shears on my 2011...took about 3 hours once setup....took twice as long to get it ready than to actually replace them....also was a good opportunity to check, clean brakes, bearing etc. also....lucky we changed them out when we did....should have replaced them couple years ago probably....
