White Crystals in Water Heater

Recently installed a new Suburban SW10DE water heater in our 2003 3290RK. Installation went smoothly thanks to input from the forum group. Had RV out about a month ago and heater worked great both on propane and primarily on shore power. I was checking out the unit for an upcoming outing and noticed what appear to be white crystals in the hot water tank when I pulled the anode rod. Never had this happen before and always drain tank after an outing.

Would appreciate input if anyone has experienced this problem and any solutions. Only thing different is a new water tank.

Also, have a broken end cap on the Sunchaser 8500/9000 patio awning. This is the metal cap on each end of the assembly the awning material rolls up on. Is the replacement of this cap another do-it-yourselfer or best left to a shop?

Again, I really appreciate the support received from the other Montana owners.

Great Traveling,

From Google
What Are the White Flakes in My Water? Next time you fill up a glass of water, take a closer look—if there are white flakes floating around, you probably have hard water. Put simply, your water is nutrient-dense, specifically in calcium.

Are Particles in Water Safe to Drink? For the most part, drinking water with particles in it comes with very few health risks. For example, white particles in water caused by calcium and magnesium carbonate are safe to drink.

White and tan particles are hard water minerals, and they can build up over time in your pipes, and especially in your hot water heater. Mineral deposits could shorten your water heater's life significantly, and clog your pipes.

Might want to try a water softener.
