A/C Cover Question

Hello all,
I have a odd question... we have a Montana with Dometic air conditioners and I see that the air conditioner covers are black. Would it make any difference on their functioning if I painted them white to help reflect heat?

I believe the new models do have white covers.
Go for it.
But just to be scientific about it...measure the output temperature before and after.
Maybe do one AC unit and not the other and compare.
You must use a real thermometer or laser thermometer.

When we replaced the roof on our S&B a few years ago, I went with Charcoal Dark Grey shingles. They replaced a very light grey shingle we had before. There was less than a 1 degree difference in attic temperature between the two. I have a thermometer in the attic and an attic fan set to kick on at 125 degrees.
I really though it would make a more significant difference, but that wasn't the case.

Only thing good with the dark colored A/C covers is they don't show the dirt/dust/bird crap as bad.

If you paint it, use Rust-o-lium Professional spray paint. That stuff is great on vinyl. I spray painted the propane tank cover on my last travel trailer because it was fading so horrible. I used Rust-o-lium Professional. It held the color great, never faded, and never chipped anywhere. I've since used this on other plastics and vinyl's and it's held great!

Painting the AC cover won't hurt a thing. I doubt changing the color of the AC cover is going to affect anything with the cold output. But, even a half a degree can make a big difference! Who knows?

Keeping the evaporator and condenser coils clean, will serve you best, painting is only cosmetic.

Good idea, cleaned and it really needed it. I don't think the previous owners ever cleaned the A/C by the looks of it.
