Replacing rear window shades with shutters?

We absolutely hate the day/night shades over the large rear window in our 3400RL. Actually, we hate them ALL with a passion. They require WAY too much teamwork, force, strength and pure luck to get the raised evenly and without jamming.
So, we are contemplating what to do about them, and we are considering shutters over the big window to start with. Has anyone done this? We are worried about how soundly they will stay attached with the vibration of traveling down the road. We have seen both wood and PVC shutters that look very nice, with many colors available, and I'm thinking the PVC ones would be lighter in weight. Thoughts or suggestions much appreciated!

Except for the 3150RL ... all my Montanas had venetian blinds secured similarly to the day nights. They also had small clips at the bottom to keep them in place if you just wanted to use the shutters. That being said ... using 2 hands and not going at it like you're killing snakes ... we get along with the day nights.

our trailer came with horizontal wood blinds in the whole trailer, except the bedroom which has the cheap accordion shades like out old TT had. we really like the blinds as you have a lot of options for adjusting the amount of light. we will replace the bedroom blinds in the future, especially the one on the sides of the headboard in the slide.

I have found that loosening the lower cord attachment points a bit make the blinds much easier to raise and lower. I have also found that when they are real tight, you will eventually have to reattach the blinds at the top, as the tension on them will pull the screws out of the wall.

Our 2015 Legacy Edition came with MCD everywhere except the bedroom! We are going to stop at the factory in Mcinney Texas this spring to complete the bedroom and get rid of the last 4 paper shades. The MCD window treatments are wonderful.

I'm with ya Mark, I HATE and I mean LOATHE Day/Night shades,I have had 3 Monty's with them and I am as careful as I can raising and lowing them but they still break and come down uneven I have lost track of how many times I have had to restring them (I gotten pretty dang good at it) but now I am saving up for MCD shades and call it good, bummer part is 3 months after I bought my early 2015 they came with them, just my luck

Discovered that exactly myself after ripping the whole thing out of the wall. Not once, but twice (slow learner). As soon as I loosened the cords the blinds go up and down evenly and easily.

No problem with our day/night shades after 4 years of full time use. That said, MCD shades are in our future when we have to replace one.

Almost same as DQDICK. 4 years of full time use with ours with no problems. Shades go up/down with very little effort. Do not plan to install MCDs later due to excessive cost.

The main problem I see with the PVC, would be if your fiver is ever stored during hot weather. PVC will warp.

I don't get it...My blood pressure raises every time I have to open or close my day/night shades, ESPECIALLY the big one at the back and the little one next to the bed in the bedroom slide. (That one requires me to get into all kinds of weird positions just to be able to get both hands on it to lift evenly and smoothly.) Yet...Others are stating they are having no issues with them at all. I wonder what gives? Mine jam, they bind, the accordian folds DON'T fold evenly about half the time. Sheesh...

MCD in McKinney Texas has 12 camp sites with 30/50 amp service for your use (free) while they are installing your units. No water or sewage dump available. Safe area of town. Normal install - monday measure, install wednesday & thursday.
Very friendly staff....

Are you trying to lower or raise both the day and night part at the same time? If so, try doing it in 2 movements...MUCH easier!

We've a rear entertainment center with a lift on the tv. The day/night shades have never been enough to be able to watch tv during daytime, so I covered the whole thing with Mylar bubble type thermal insulation - just slipped it between the shade and the window. Keeps the tv a lot cooler too!

Here is a link: http://www.braddandhall.com/productc...?idCategory=59

Our night shades are white, but totally block light. the day shades are black screen. We love them. Just pull down with one hand and they stay. Give a little tug and let go - they gently go up. You couldn't pay me to go back to the accordion-like day/night shades.
