Chicken Hawk Photo

I took this photo from the house yesterday. I was probably about 200 feet from it. I think it’s a chicken hawk. I hope I’m not boring you all with this stuff but if so you can just skip over it and go on to something else of more interest. We’re having the time of our life’s right now. Being a city boy for 57 years and not living this close to the country we’ve not been exposed to this much wildlife so often.

On the other hand, it's a lot like camping whenever we build a big fire in the back yard.
I wish we had better accommodations we could have a small rally right here!

Bill and Donna, you are enjoying yourselves. And that's what it's all about! Keep on enjoying for as long as you can. The day comes all too soon when we can no longer do that.

It's really fun isn't it! Wildlife is a main reason we spend as little time as possible in RV parks and as much time as possible in volunteer sites in wildlife areas.

Country Life is the life for us, already chopped up a snake while mowing, saw a (mickey) mouse it shop yesterday, and occasionally watch deer move though the yard at night. The only down side is coyotes and they have gotten (coyote potluck dinners) our last 3 cats in the past 12 months. However, all is not bad as Peanut lived a full and cautious life for 17 yrs, and had grown old. Felix, who stayed on the porch most of the time loved to fetch and play made it 14 yrs. while Bella who just had visit the neighboring farms only made it 5 years. The apples are getting big so it will not be long till the raccoons make their nightly fruit eating visits. Enjoy that backyard, barn and wildlife.

It is a Red Tail. They were all chicken hawks until about 30 years ago. My wife and I went to the Land Between the Lakes about 45 years ago at that time they had Bald Headed Eagles, or so it said in their brochure. My how things have changed.
I got a picture one time of a red tail attacking a full grown gobbler, that I had just shot.

All I can say is thank goodness for digital - like you I am always taking pictures of our wildlife. It would cost a fortune in film....Like you after living in the city for so long I don't want to miss a minute of our country life....
