What is behind this panel?
Still looking for empty spaces (we have run out of room for shoes). *Any clue what might be behind this panel (above the control panel). I have verified that 2 other such spaces are actually virtually empty and can therefore be used as cubbies. *But I cant determine this one, since I can not see behind it. I would rather not bash it in ...

Apparently, I can not add a photo on my iPhone. The space is in the cabinet by the front door - under the 'closet' and uabove the electric panel.

If it's above the electrical panel, then I'm betting it's full of wires. You can pull the electrical panel to confirm this.

Should be able to see what's there by taking the wall off that side of the basement. I'm betting on wires also.

I have no idea of the floorplan of your Mountaineer nor whether you have this cold air return below the step. Or even a removable panel there. But this is where we store the shoes we use when we go outside. It has been in use for six years with no detrimental effect on cold air return volume.

That is a great idea for a shoe cabinet. I am going to have to steal that one too.
