Has anyone had an Axel fail?
When they 'Fail' what fails? What breaks, or bends, or ???
Thanks.

I never had the axle fail or break, but the U-bolts came loose once and the axle slid back causing the Monty to jackknife. Scary!!!

Ozz;On my 2006 the axels lost the flex or bend and went straight, so then the tires will wear on the inside in a very short time as now the wheels are not straight up and down, some have had the axels rebent but that is a short fix as once it looses its camber , its junk and you have to replace them , some say it was over loaded but the truth in my book was the axel was not heavy enough to start with, when mine went the shipped new axels with paper stickers over the old stamp in the axel , after much to do calls they made it good with new axels of the rite weight. sailer

Are you referring to the Montana, truck, or car?

We bent the rear axle on our rig 2 years ago and had to have it replaced. It had worn the left rear tire completely bald on the inside 2" of the tread.

We had excessive wear on the inside of the rear tires. The wheels were actually toed out. After having it professionally checked and watching the process, it was shown to me that the wheels were toed-out and the only solution was to replace the axle. Since we were in Texas and needed to get back to NY, we chose to put the front tires on the rear and 2 new tires on the front to get it home. When we got home we replaced both axles with 7000 lb axles. Then purchased four new tires and kept the 2 new/used ones for spares. We would have been delayed indefinately in TX if we had it done there. I did the work myself, and decided that I needed the heavier axles to prevent this happening again.

Do you think the cross brace some have had installed would have kept that from happening?

Ozz, in my opinion I don't think so. I don't think they were heavy enough for the weight of trailer. Also, I'm thinking that I may have put stress on it when backing up in different parking situations over the years.

Ozz there is a whole scenario of my bent axle being replaced. One of the reasons given was that I may have hit something causing the damaged axle. You may want to do a search on the topic.

I have had the experience of bending axles on my fivers and equipment trailers. It is not some thing that you will notice right now, most time you see worn tires first. MHO is this most likely happens when backing and cutting too sharply as you back. The bent axles that I have had have been the rear most axle. Have not had any problems with bent spindles.

To answer the question will the X-Factor stop the axles from going bad. The answer is no. I have the X-Factor and my 6000Lb axles on my 3150 went bad. Did some serious wear to my new G614s.
My fix was to replace the 6000Lb axles with 7000Lb axles and 6 leaf springs and #20 RE equalizers. Now the rig tows like it should and the wheels are straight and true. The wheels do not look out of alignment.

Ozz will undoubtedly need the 7000# axles due to the weight of all his AWESOME mods.

Ozz,
I replaced our 5200# axles with 6000#'s at a spring shop in Seattle. At the same time, I had them put heavier springs on, replace the mor-ryde z brackets and rubber, put on a new wet-bolt kit, new u-bolts...entire cost including labor was about $1200.
As fulltimers, we're heavy.

We had to replace our "bent" front axle. Dexter is great to work with. Front right tire had excessive wear on the outside. Looked like a toe-in problem. Just had it replaced. Time will tell.
