National RV

Friday National RV filed Chapter 11 Bankrupsy and Laid off all 600 employees. It's pretty well covered over on the Excapees forum.
I hope this isn't the first domanio in a long line. I've been watching my local dealer and he still has several used RV'S that I looked at in Aug. My local Chrysler Dealer also has some of the same used cars we looked at in Aug before we got her 05 Rendezvous.

Used -- the local auto dealers have many of their larger (3/4 and 1-ton) vehicles -- local Chev dealer had reduced the price by 12K and still has the 3500 chev fully loaded truck on the lot. Went by 4-seasons RV on Friday and they appear to have an excess of inventory on hand right now as well. Not looking good in that market. On the other hand the shops are doing a lot of business as owners repair / upgrade what they have.

I am not really a nay sayer but it does not look good. I don't what is going to "drive" the market(sorry for the pun) but I purchased my first diesel to cut back on expenses. Since then fuel has tripled in price while the oil companies enjoy record profits. I remember the fuel strikes from the truckers a couple of decades ago. Maybe we need to bite the bullet and shut down the oil companies for a while.

I am with Garin. When we were in Missouri the pricec of diesel was $3.39-$3.49 per gallon. As soon as we went across the Oklahoma state line the price was back down to $3.25 and by the time we reached Tulsa it was back down to $3.10 per gallon.
Could someone explain how this is not price gouging?

Last week it was $3.89 for diesel here in the Spokane area. This week it is down to $3.84.

Omaha is running $3.39 to $3.49 and the unleaded is dropping but not the diesel! Why is it so high when it is the cheapest to be refined? Bio is also being used here and the price just keeps the same level or goes up!!! WHY???!!!???

In mid-Sept we were in the Outer Banks and returning to our Rig on a Thursday afternoon. I noted the price of fuel to the same as it was inland. The next afternoon, Friday, the price jumped 20 cents a gal. Don't know if it dropped Monday, but am guessing it did.

Diesel won't go down as long as 'bad weather' is forecast for the North/NorthEast (Fuel Oil??); no way to get truckers to strike over the price -- Congress saw the writing on the wall years ago and gave them the means to just pass the increased cost on to their customers -- effectively took them out of the picture.

What I find interesting is that the price of a barrel of oil went down to the $89 and change yesterday, regular unleaded went down by 4 cents at several of our local stations today yet diesel went up from 3.45 to 3.55 at the same stations. With 2 new grandkids to spoil the wife and I have already cancelled one of our trips to see family over the holiday break, she is now talking of cancelling the other one. (I happen to agree - would rather give the money towards spoiling the little guys instead of lining some rich oil Company Executive's wallet!) Oops - better get off the soapbox
