Electric plug in car club!

We joined the electric car club this weekend. Bought a Ford Fusion Titanium Energi. 88 mph using battery and gas. Never thought we do this, but we are driving back and forth between Redding and Stanford Hospital four to five times a month. Costing $140. Round trip. New car about $17.00. Very impressed with its power and you don't feel like your driving a battery car. Looked at a Tesla, but they are having big problems right now, and one I wanted was $100k. Plus my wife said I had to get rid of my HellCat if I wanted one!

I am curious. How much did your electric bill increase?

I got an all electric Nissan Leaf 3 years ago as my drive to the office is about 3 miles, not far enough to get my F450 up to operating temperature. I thought that commute would do harm to the truck so I bought the Leaf for my daily driver.

Last year I drove 3948 miles, used 831kw electricity, averaging 4.7 miles per kW. My average cost is .17kw so it ran about $141 in increase per year on my electric bill.

Batteries are warranted for 10 years. I only drive it around town and can use the commuter lane. It might not be for everyone, but it works for me.

Ken

BTW, I'm really interested in the Chevy Bolt that is coming out late this year. It's supposed to have a 200 mile radius, a 60kv battery bank, similar to the Tesala. Currently my Nissan has a 24kv battery about 100 mles max around town, 80 on the highway.

Ok couple corrections. Yes mpg was auto corrected. We actually got 93 mph on first first tank. Our electric bill should not move at all. We get a lower rate for buying the car. Many Ca utilities give discounts for plug in cars. Further we found lots of free charging stations. My wife found two at the hospital where she works. Out other cars include SRT Jeep and a HellCat charger so gas milage is not their strong points. Lol
