Transfer Fuel tank?

Anyone added and additional fuel tank? Every DRW truck we have owned, I have added a fuel tank for more fuel. I have on order a Transfer fuel tank combo with tool box. I will have and additional 75 gals. Comes with pump, to pump fuel to the truck when needed. I also have a John Deere Tractor which uses diesel.

I ordered the Better Build fuel tank/combo from Northern Tool. With pump which pumps 15 GPm. We found when traveling out West the extra fuel capacity really saved money on fuel. If you travel in the West, you will find at times you need extra fuel.

Happy trails.

I had a 50 Gal. Transfer Flow put in my 8' bed, takes up 17 inches giving me 86 Gal. We spend 5 months in CA each year and never buy fuel for it there. We fill up before we cross the border and when we go up to Oregon for a week. Sometimes we travel I80, having 50 extra gallons makes it much easier.

Had one in my old truck, just gravity feed, worked great. Haven't decided if I need one in my 19 or not.

My DRW Ford came with 48 gal factory tank. It seems to work for me right now as I don’t really want to give up any bed space. If I find out that I need more I might look at Titan or Transferflow stock tank replacement tanks. Pretty spendy for 60/65 gal capacity but as I said 48 is good enough for now.

Same here. In over a year of being a full timing nomad it's been more than enough. Plenty of reserve to find the right "pump layout" to pull in one end and out the other. Oddly enough it seems to be small towns that have this layout more often than off freeway exits.

Added 110 gallon gravity fill. Works great - I can stay out of places where the fuel is higher priced & fill in the lower priced stations. Sometimes .70 cents a gallon difference! 55 gallon factory tank. 135 gallons = $100 per fill or $200-300 per trip!

Thanks for all the comments, I only buy GM Trucks, only have seen factory installed 36 Gal on board fuel tanks. The Better Built fuel/took box combo was $1,044.99 dollars no shipping cost. Gives me a total of 111 gals. Plenty of fuel.

Need or want is what one must decide on.

Happy trails.

I went with the 46 gallon gravity tank from Aluminum Tank Industries for my Ram 2500. Doesn't take up much room and reasonably priced. Gives me all the range I need.

Custom made tank

I had researched a lot. The replacement under-body tanks are quite large for Ford & Ram but not very big for GM trucks. It would be $1500 to $1800 to move from my 26 gal stock to a 36 gallon replacement. No way that is worth it. I found recommendations on forums like this one for KSH Tanks in Lake Havasu, AZ. I had specific dimensional requirements for a short bed, had to clear my Andersen hitch and fit under my tonneau cover. I filled out their template and they cooked up a custom fit, 70 gallon tank for $750. A gauge, vent and tax brought it to about $860. I bought a pump on my own and installed it. Now I can go all day and fill up at night or at a fuel stop of my choosing and with a price I've shopped for.

I replaced the factory tank in my 2012 3500HD DRW 5-6 years ago. I had the Transfer Flow 61gal midship tank installed and the 50gal aux tank installed in my bed with the Trax system. Have 111 gal capacity if needed. Transfer flow had done some mods and upgrades to their tanks and Trax systems since mine was installed. I'm very happy with it. The 50 gal aux tank fits under my BakFlip folding hard cover.

Same for me. 48 gallons provides more distance than DW want's to go between stops.

The other major factor is, with my setup, I can't give up any pin weight to one of these tanks. Diesel is right about 7 lbs./gal, plus the tank and plumbing.

Transfer fuel tank/tool box combo.

I did the research and the best price for my needs was the Better Built fuel tank/tool box combo. It came with 15 GPM electric pump, holds 75 gals and the price was $1,044.00 and ships free. I never liked cutting into any fuel lines, for gravity feed fuel. Another reason, I went with the transfer tank, it feeled my needs to put fuel in my John Deere, tractor. I have had several gravity fed fuel tanks, I look at the larger fuel tanks, custom fit, to pricey? If you have ever traveled in the West, extra fuel is need, and hand tools are a must with RVs. The Better built fuel tank/tool box combo, filled my need.

Happy trails.

I put a 75 gallon Transfer Flow tank in 3 years ago. I can't imagine traveling without it. I now have 109 gallons onboard. Big stress reliever for me. The extra weight is not an issue but it does put me within a #100 lbs. of gross truck weight when full and hooked up to our 3791RD. The combo weight is far below gross. This week in PA fuel is $3.69 a gallon. I found fuel in central OH for $3.12 a gallon. I had half of a tank left, but I filled up anyway. That's about $34 savings on 1/2 a tank.

I've had the same 40 gallon gravity feed aux tank in the last three trucks. I'm sure I'll move it over into the next three as well. Wouldn't take $5k for it if I couldn't replace it.

Run a 40 gal in the bed set up for gravity, Added a 12volt in-line fuel pump to a outfitter switch in the Ford Super Duty. Gives me 74 gal. I’m ready to get out of the truck and fill by the time it’s getting low.

I have a 5 gallon plastic (less weight) transfer tank in mine. I use a manual gravity pump. It’s easy to change from one truck to another. It is also used to fill my small Kubota BX 2370 tractor. It too is a great stress reliever, as I never allow my main tank to get anywhere close to empty. I don’t have the extra capacity for the weight a large tank offers, and I don’t think I have enough years of RVing left for one to pay for itself either. That being said convince comes at a price and sometimes it’s hard to put a value on it.
