smoke detector batteries

Picked up our new 2018 3820FK in November. As usual, every time you cook something the smoke detector goes off. Well, we're in the habit of removing it when I cook and laying it above the sink. As I was washing the dishes I noticed that the 9 volt was defective. Looked like it had been pried on the bottom; on closer inspection I noticed that the expiration date was 06/17. In other words, Keystone put an Expired battery into our unit when they built it! Apparently our safety and our lives mean nothing to them once they get their money. Check you batteries folks!

Your smoke detector was just a stocked item st the factory.
Keystone probably had pallets of them sitting there. They just are out of date batteries, replace it. This should be done 2 times a year anyway.
FYI the 2019 model Montana’s started being sold around July so your 2018 has been around awhile.
Enjoy your new rig and welcome, there lots of good information here.

Possibly look at your dealer instead of Keystone. I would suspect that Keystone buys smoke detectors in pallet lots and those should have current batteries.

And that 9V battery version - trade it out for a 3x1.5vdc (and more common now AA battery) version, dual dual sensor alarm such as this. Our original died within weeks of buying the 5er and this is what replaced it:https://www.amazon.com/First-Alert-S.../dp/B00O8MVW0S

When our smoke detector failed, I replaced it with one of these. It has a 10 year lithium battery that never needs replacing. When the low battery alarm sounds, you just replace the unit. No annual or every six month battery replacement. https://www.lowes.com/pd/First-Alert...ght/1000456481

The reason I went with the 'conventional' battery version in our 5er instead if the '10 year' version are the major swings in local temperatures (-15 to 100 F and more in an enclosed RV) and battery life.

Well, it must have been working. You removed the battery to keep the detector from going off while you cooked.
