A million heading south?

I read an article that claimed over 1 million RV folks would be heading south for the winter. I knew there was a reason I didn't like to travel I-75 south this time of year.

As a first timer we will be one of those million although it will be I29 for us, starting in Winnipeg, Manitoba to about Omaha and then south west from there to Tucson, AZ. Still planning our route but 1st night will probably be in a hotel in Sioux Falls or Sioux City depending on how early a start we get. From there the temps should be above freezing and we can use the RV.
Can't wait.

That number is way way low. One large metro area in Florida or Arizona get that many or more just by themselves.

We do avoid I-75 as Atlanta is a nightmare any time of the day or day of the week.

We will be heading that way soon, but we avoid interstates as much as we can. There's a whole country out there that can't be seen from an interstate.

Had some of my most interesting road experiences driving thru Atlanta. Just as an example, we were going thru late one night with both of my young daughters awake and looking at the city when a pickup truck with a ladder rack passed us with three hillbillies standing up peeing over the tailgate. Hard to find the right thing to say.

I-35 and I-45 into the Lone Star State are much less offensive. Spending our second full-time winter in Spring this year after spending and loving the first one in Kerrville.

Rich, we breezed right thru Atlanta on 75 last week. Hit it about 1030 hours and traffic was moving good, no problems

Spent last night at the free Casino campground in Joplin, Mo. Tomorrow nite, Casino in Broken Bow, OK. Then I-35 campground in Waco, Tx, then Bandera, Tx for a month. From there Weslaco, Tx for 4 months.

Got to love it.

Atlanta is one of the best area to drive thru. Very easy just drive fast and go with the flow. Also FYI if there are 2 or more people in the the vehicle ( even towing) you can use the HOV lanes.

I think the secret to Atlanta is do not hit the bypass. We have come through many times and the last time was 5 pm and very little traffic through town. Trucks are not allowed through town unless going local.

We are stopped in Edinburg for a couple of years, but last Friday I took a motorcycle trip to North Kansas and couldn't believe the number of Winter Texans/RV's already on the road heading south.
