G-614 tires on new wheels

Scheduled to swap our 3400 out for our new 3725 at Lazy Days this coming Tuesday. Had a couple calls back and forth from "Delivery Specialist" fine tuning our requirements for different options they are adding prior to delivery. She told me in a call yesterday morning that my new 3725 had 614 tires on it. I finally convinced her that I wanted Goodyear G-614 tires mounted on it, and not the junk tires that she was seeing on it. She then told me that G-614 tires would not work on the 3725 Marathon. She claimed that the tire shop parts person looked it up and told her that. I told her they better check again because there were hundreds of Montana owners, including myself that are running them. She called back later and said the problem was taken care of. I was fishing with my buddy and told him about the conversation. He suggested maybe my new fancy chrome rims wouldn't handle the 110 pound pressure of the G-614 tire pressure. I know my new rims aren't steel wagon wheels, but the nicer chrome ones. I assume I will be ok with the G-614's on these new Montana rims?

Don't assume! When we had our blow out an damage in early 09, and we switched to G614's we had to replace the wheels as well. The originals would not support 110 PSI. And no one, not Keystone, not Lazy Days, not Carlyle, would make good for the crap that came standard on our Big Sky. Lazy Days did help me get a set of tires and wheels from the local Tredit dealer for a good price, so that was a help, but it was costly!

Joe, Pretty sure that Tredit or Keystone told us at the Fall Rally that all Montana wheels are now certified for 110# PSI.

When I purchased my 3402RL this December it had the other tires and I asked the dealer to upgrade to the G614's. He worked a deal with the tire company that sells the rims and tires to Keystone. They shipped him G614s mounted on the correct rims that seem to be wider by 1/2" and have steel valves already. They took the old rims and tires in trade. Only cost me $1410. Only issue I have is the lug nuts are rusting. That's on the upgrade list but way down the list right now.

Thanks for quick replies! I looked at Tredit's site and matched up my wheels. I am now about 99% sure they will be rated for 110 lb. pressure or above. I will still check the stamp on the rim though to make sure. It also looks like any Tredit wheel that has 8 lug nuts is rated high enough for the G-614 tires.

Change that to "recent" Tredit wheel and you are correct. There was some controversy a few years back where Tresit said they were, sent stickers to that effect, then backtracked and said they weren't. You are good to go for the past couple of years.

I do think it's possible that the "614" factory rims may be a little wider, but I can tell you from experience that 614's do just fine on the Marathon rims for years and years.

Check your rims...

All rims are stamped with the psi rating and stamped size.

You will find the stamping on the back side of the rim and stamped within one of the spokes. Get a flash light and look.

My rims say 110 and I found a Big sky which had the same rims and they were stamped 110.

I also checked SOB cause they come equip with the G-614's and said 110 too. They all seem to be the same size and psi.

Just make sure you check the rims, as our 09 Big Sky came with rims that only went to 80. I'm sure they got better after 09, because so many of us complained.

Yep, my 09 rims are only good for 85 according to Tredit, but my stamping on inside of rim says "3500lbs" This weight stamping confuses me as to whether I have a "80" or "110" rim so I will abide by Tredir's recommendation of 85 psi. Buying the unit as used maybe the previous owner never applied the new "stickers."

Hi

I posted htis on your other thread but here it is again.

Call Tredit back and send them a picture of your rims. They may have been changed. My 2009 has newer rims on it and they are stamped 110PSI max on the inside and are of a much different appearance than the old ones. I put the old ones on a trailer my partner and I use to haul antique engines to shows for display.

The backside of the wheels (rims is an acceptable term as well) will have both the max weight rating and the max pressure rating in different spots. Since mach111 said his wheels had 3500 lb etched on them, my guess is that they are not the 110 psi max rating wheels since the 110psi max wheels are also stamped/etched with 3710 lbs max. 3500 lbs would tell me that they are 85 psi max wheels. Yeah, I know you it is hard for some to get under the monty to check things out, that's when you convince someone else you trust to go under and look at what it says or you take off one of the wheels and do the looky-see thing. PS...the wheels are also stamped with their size, like 16x6 that came on my montana with Marathon tires. And they were 110 psi...but I decided I was extremely lucky to have no damage to the rig after 2 blowouts on the same trip and so I went with new wheels and tires that handle 4800 plus lbs and greater than 125 psi. I thought the Tredit 8 lug aluminum rims are rated at 3750 pounds and 110 psi. Might be worth verifying.

Our 2012 3402RL has wheels rated 3750lbs and 110psi. 40 lbs probably doesn't really matter, just need to get over 3500 lbs for the 7,000 lb axles.

Hi

Here are pictures of the 110 PSI wheels on our 2009 Montana.

,

The 80 or 85 PSI wheels I removed the spokes and hub were not as beefy you can see the lug nuts almost go in so far it would be hard to see them.

Hi Phil,

My rims are a different style than your wheels. I think my rims are the "old" style 8 lug which are the 80-85 psi. After weighing each wheel for weight these rims with Michelins XPS ribs will handle our Monty. I like the styling of your rims but I am going to spend those $$$$ for a shore reel power cord. I do not like dragging that heavy electric cord around.

You may want to confirm the sticker with Tredit. That was their first engineering fix for the weight ratings, then they decided that the stickers were void. The only way to confirm is to call them!

If your wheels look like the ones in the pictures in this thread, they are good for G614s. To my knowledge there are no rims being installed on Montes now tha will not. Yours is a 2014 , and G614s are optional from factory. You're OK.
